The colour is beautiful...and is typical for Papaver Somniferum. Do you have any pods that have dropped their flowers yet (that's when they should start to get some size)

Its Papaver setigerum by my eye, I'd be careful trying to ID poppies based on typical colours - they are very diverse.

Where did you find this? I have been seeing a lot more of these along roadsides this year. A few years ago I thought they were som, but I posted the same question here and now I'm sure they're setigerum.

Its subtle, but once you see it you'll know:wink:

P.som

P.setigerum (some still insist calling Papaver somniferum ssp. setigerum which is old taxo AFAIK)

You'll find stiff hairs on the stems, which you don't find on P.som. Common weed of NSW and other states.

EDIT - you'll also notice the flower is tiny (hand for scale), and soms come in heaps of colours and much larger

P.som (of similar flower form)

After seeing that post ^ I've confirmed my resolve not to debate the finer aspects of poppies with Tasmanians.

It seems pretty conclusive to me.
