Philocacti Posted February 2, 2014 TPMXN1 seedling. It's not showing any signs of mutation but I noticed it displayed alternating ribs at some point

djmattz0r Posted February 13, 2014 That's insanely awesome philo! Can't wait to see if I get any crests
irabionist Posted February 13, 2014 I'm overseas, but supposedly my seeds arrived back home! So excited and I can't wait to get sowing! These all look so great! Thanks heaps!
Philocacti Posted February 13, 2014 That's insanely awesome philo! Can't wait to see if I get any crests Thanks I guess they all start normal and at some point they start to "freak out" :D So don't come to conclusions (as I did) when they're still young Still non of my seedlings, which are on they're own roots showed any mutation ;)
djmattz0r Posted February 13, 2014 Good to know, I definitely plan to graft a bunch of these so I can get them to show off their freakishness a little earlier
Jox Posted February 14, 2014 (edited) Thanks I guess they all start normal and at some point they start to "freak out" :D So don't come to conclusions (as I did) when they're still young Still non of my seedlings, which are on they're own roots showed any mutation ;) I have found this has not been the case with my seeds, some of them still look normal and might end up turning monstrose/cresty (I hope ) but a lot of them started out weird right from germination and are only getting weirder. I started my seed off quite late compared to others. I have taken a few photos of one of the strains this morning to show there weirdness. These are TPC x Juuls / SS02 / SS02 x Pach and were sown on 2/9/13. Group shot This is one that still looks pretty normal Here are five out of that lot that are showing some very nice weirdness All of the different crosses I received are showing this kind of growth in a percentage of the seedlings, I could not be happier with these results and can't thank nitrogen for giving us the opportunity to watch these little beasts grow !! Cheers Jox Edited February 14, 2014 by Jox
Philocacti Posted February 14, 2014 Wow. Mine are about 10 months old and non of them showed any mutation except most of what I grafted
Jox Posted February 14, 2014 Yeah, that is why I am so stocked with these seeds . I decided I would not graft any of these seedlings as I am positive that peres will make a difference to how these seedlings turn out. I love the look of some of the grafts and think they would of turned out weird with out grafting but I am very keen to see how they go on there own roots. Cheers Jox
tripsis Posted February 16, 2014 Wow. Mine are about 10 months old and non of them showed any mutation except most of what I grafted That's really strange. Mine starting showing signs of weirdness at around 3 - 4 weeks.
naja naja Posted February 16, 2014 (edited) Chemsha on left with another penis on the bottom and a TPMx(SS02xPach) cresty monstrosy one on right Chemsha's penises turned into something wild (left of pic) Pachanoid phenotype TPQCxTPM Edited February 16, 2014 by naja naja
naja naja Posted February 16, 2014 This is a strange one, spines are softish and it is not "spikey". It also seems to be shooting new growth from multiple areoles in a "fairycastle" type way.
hostilis Posted February 17, 2014 Here is the TPM x SS02 supposed crest. Turns out that it just is double headed. But one side looks to be cresting. I'm guessing it's just a wild mutant. Here are some weird TPQC x TPM seedlings that are growing mostly spineless for now. Here's one that isn't really doing anything special. Another TPQC x TPM
EthnoGuy85 Posted February 21, 2014 Few shots of the seedlings before I move them out to get some sunshine.
Optimystic Posted February 23, 2014 (edited) I've got a bunch of cool looking freaks out of Nitrogens crosses, especially the TPQC x TPMs... Here is one of the more recent ones, a baby stegasaurus! A green one anyhow and this is the same graft... looks more like a green Lhasa Apso from the other side eh im wierd tho I always find interesting creatures and strange facial expressions in little cacti Heres a neat little crested Psycho x TPM.. both this graft and the last one were little offsets grafted from seedlings which are still on their own roots.. some others that are neato a bowl of TPQC x TPM plus some ss02xPach/TPM and Psycho x TPM's in little pots just begging to go outdoors... any day now .o.oOoOo.o and lastly this is a TPC x multiple fathers that is probably a Juuls? if i recall.. anyhow the cool thing about this one is that it was the ass end of a double seedling graft... the tip half took but this one slid off in a couple days so I put the stump back into the soil and sprouted a whole new seedling tip! very fast too, caught up with the others... perhaps the stress helped but the little guy also has his own pot I've got several more at another location, these are just the ones that started perking up for spring already... Ive gotta retake pics on most of them tho ... labor of love I suppose Edited February 23, 2014 by Spine Collector

hostilis Posted March 8, 2014 (edited) Just an update. My couple grafted ones are doing awesome. TPQC x TPM var. Anus... Let's play find the growth point.... I'm stumped. New growth points seem to be popping up every day. I think I'm going to dub this type of crest a "cluster crest" since it's just a mess of crested growth points all growing at the same time. This one looks like a monster was inside and it's eating it's way out. TPM x SS02 This one isn't as firm as it used to be. Not sure why, I've never had this happen to a grafted seedling. I'm watering it a lot. Edited March 8, 2014 by hostilis
hookahhead Posted March 30, 2014 What the funk? This is "cactipillar" I posted earlier. I will try to get some pictures of the others soon. I have been busy cloning all of the freaks when I can, so there will definitely be some for trade this summer Thanks again nitrogen... seriously you have no idea (well actually you probably do) how much joy growing these seeds out has been for me. Such a wonderful gift!

Philocacti Posted March 31, 2014 TPMxN1 monstrose Another one with a few crest pups
Jox Posted March 31, 2014 Very nice Philocacti, I love seeing photos of these non-grafted freaks. Cheers Jox
Philocacti Posted March 31, 2014 Thanks Jox, but I must say these were grafted but at some point all of these freaks started sending out roots while still on the pereskiopsis. So I cut an inch or so of the pereskiopsis and planted them. So I guess they're growing on 2 root systems ;)
hookahhead Posted April 2, 2014 (edited) And the sign says "Long-haired freaky people need not apply" So I put my hair up under my hat and I went in to ask him whyHe said you look like a fine outstanding young man, I think you'll doSo I took off my hat, I said "Imagine that, huh, me working for you"Signs, signs, everywhere there's signsFuckin' up the scenery, breakin' my mindDo this, don't do that, can't you read the sign Also an update on some of my weirdo friends... TPM x N1 var. "WTF" This is a pretty funky plant, and I have been able to propagate a few clones. However, it seems as though it can grow into several different forms. Mother: Pup1 Pup2 Pup3 TPQC x TPM var. "L1" This groovy guy has earned the nickname "peace cactus". I have noticed others have posted some of theirs that seem to display this growth pattern, but I have never seen it outside of this thread. Was this type of growth ever noted before we all started sowing nitrogens magic beans or is it a completely new "type" of mutant? Either way, I think it's simply awesome Mother: Pup1 Edited April 2, 2014 by hookahhead
