how to place a perfect tag

hmm, i'm old, but me, guess, young members struggle aswell, about how to place a tag.

i think, it's not good to place, trivial words into the toic tags space,

but rather use botanical and/ or constructive terms.

i'm eager for your replies, "how to place the most benefical tags", when opening a thread.

On a related topic, I go by latin names when tagging plants because they tell you a bit about the plant.

I like to write at the end of the tag so I can still read it after sticking it in the pot.

Also I like to use a thick HB pencil as the writing seems to last for ages (more than 10 years).

You can clean and reuse old plastic tags with some sand paper, which leaves them nicely primed to be written on with pencil.

I like using aluminum for tags for its life span either "coke cans" cut up for throw away tags, just write on them with a dead biro, the indentation never fades or washes off. Or old ally venetian blinds cut down, you can either use a HB pencil or engrave it with a scriber.

My memory isnt what it once was so i put the botanic name & an alpha numeric code that relates to a ledger that has the plant name & any details that i think may be important, propagation date, when i potted up, what i fed it etc etc. that way if i kill it i can hopefully look back & see where i screwed up.

Just to clear things up are you talking about tags for a thread? Not for a plant its self right

before the last update, we didn't had a tags feature, and instead, in it's place was a field, one could place a few words to describe the topic.

i think it's a very good feature, but if we don't apply it proper, we will not gain any benefit from it.

i don't think it helps to type trivial things into thise field, like "looking for", "wtf", or "a nice score".

some people use this feature though very well already, with terms like, "scion", "grafting", "stratification"...

the latin name of the plant discussed, should always be added, so it might read: "catha edulis", "probagation", "humidety tent"...

The more tags people do on their thread the better it will be.

One important thing to remember though when tagging is correct spelling, getting the latin name correct is absolutely vital if you want the tags to match up correctly, however misspelling other words is still just as bad.

PH that means your example tags would have to be catha edulis, propagation, humidity .

Torsten if you're reading this, is there any setting to be able to retroactively change or add tags into a thread? Possibly even allow everyone permission to add tags to an existing thread? The more tags the better we'll be able to index the forum and not everybody creates tags for their threads let alone appropriate ones.

i stick my head out and say, it's possible, right now to change / add retro your own opening posts!

how to add, a tag to an old opening post of yours:

click edit at your opening post, than click full editor, than add tags in the window beneath your topic title!

If the only way to edit or add tags is through that I doubt very much that you could add tags to someone elses thread.

How relevant is tagging? When I do a search for something it searches the entire thread, so if the tagged words are all in the first post, it's not going to make much difference.

Unless, of course, you do add the binomial scientific name of the plant in question (where there is a plant named). A lot of topic titles aren't always that relevent, so tags might be useful or they might not. I guess there are a lot of kava threads which might be useful tagged as Piper methysticum etc So I guess it's a pain to have to search for both - not much help when we delve through older threads.

if they have technnology capable of retroactive causation, i agree they should switch it to enabled

also common etiquette is tags and kr ink everywhere, throwup can go over a tag, piece can go over a throwup, burner goes over a piece, charos and murals over everything. homies be ragin when toys be taggin their pieces yo.

that search engines, seem to like topics like top 10, so i assume that using some specific words, just will create more traffic for the site, than others.

i guess we have to still learn a bit here, when it comes to understanding, how to use good words in our title description and tags.

probably you get a nummber one hit, because you used, 4 different terms, which only matched with sab, but this would have proly aswell happen if i'd used no tags at all, and used those 4 terms in the header.

but search engines, do go by tags, and it's better to use tags, than not to.
