What did you do to your cacti today?

The presence of these Parasola probably indicates high lignin (wood) content.

Will they hurt the seedlings? And yeah, I can see all the bark chunks in there just by looking at the picture. They're probably eating that stuff up.

Highly unlikely. If anything, the mycelium makes the nutrients available to plants as it digests the substrate.

correct, shrooms are decomposers. its good for the cactus as i understand it.

Yes, but they can also be indicators of the substrate and environment. If it was a Coprinopsis species, that would mean that the substrate is far too rich in nitrogen for cacti. This just means it has a loot of woody material in it.

I've heard the decomposers/frees up nutrients argument before.

In those arguments the health of the human tends to be ignored.

If mushrooms are frequently fruiting in indoor or greenhouse grows wont the spores eventually cause allergy, et al. in the gardener that habitually breathes them?

Well, that can be a concern, but in my opinion, definitely not at this scale. Also, some species produce a lot more spores and are much more aggressive than others. Oyster mushrooms particularly, mushroom farmers who work with them have to wear high quality breathing masks at all times, or else health problems can build up pretty quickly. Other commonly cultivated species usually pose little health risk, even for people who pick metric tons of them on a weekly basis.

A small coprinoid mushroom that pops up every now and then is of no concern. The air is full of foreign particles, mushroom spores, mold spores, bacteria, microscopic animals and a myriad of other things, a healthy human with uncompromised immune system is able to defend itself from most of them.

Repotted a couple hundred seedlings, most were Aussie crosses care of Mushroomman.

Did some GA3 work on some rare/scarce Tricho seeds and some psychotria seeds.

Mixed up lots more seedling cacti mix in anticipation

great pics magical, thanks for sharing

just one recommendation, switch to a pencil instead of a magic marker for your plant labels.....a few years in the sun and magic markers tend to fade pretty bad.

Received a crested stapelia in the mail today, excited to see what type of flower it produces :)

post-13244-0-20832200-1400285502_thumb.j

Also got in some seedlings and potted them up along with some seedlings that were needing something other than sand to grow in.

And finally I picked this up at work, will either put it in the ground or use it as grafting stock haven't decided. [edit] It's a Stenocereus griseus, thanks Myeloblast for the ID :)

found a new substrate/media to play with

gallery_14443_793_272746.jpg

put a few cacti in the greenhouse, saw they were getting scorched within 20 mins so rescued em n put em back outside

the italian terscheckii with the voracious hard thorns is loving it though with zero scorch : 3 same with the santiaguensis from the same seller

must be what italian sun is like maybe?

the 50-60C heat slapped the Azadirachta indica into life too which is kinda xeriscape even tho not cactus , same with the peganum harmalas

checked germinatia

Moved about a quarter of the seedlings out into a more exposed area. Repotted about 2-300 and started another dozen localities/crosses. All Tricho's.....

All of those tricho babies look very nice :)

Found some rot on a variegated scion/stock so I grafted 2 pups just in case it spread and I lost the whole graft.

Unfortunately after a couple days it seems to have spread slightly, engulfing the small pups that were in the first picture. So the main button was re-grafted to a large PC pachanoi.

post-13244-0-76106800-1400553833_thumb.j

It is held in place with kite twine and then a rubber band held in place with 2 toothpicks stuck into the stock. I hope I got all the infection cut away but I am pretty sure the other 2 took with some luck so not all my eggs in one basket
