Pinion Posted March 10, 2013 I attempted to graft a loph to pereskiopsis (first time I've ever tried grafting). I only have 12 loph seedlings to experiment with (only 24% germinated) and I lost two in the process (I knocked the first scion off and mushed the second just trying to cut it). If this graft fails, I will cry.

Hey pinion, good luck with the grafts, you will find grafting really rewarding once you get the hang of it, so if you fail have another go Shoot me a pm with your address and ill send you some good razor blades for seedling grafting and some trich and loph seeds

naja naja Posted March 11, 2013 Grafted 15 trich seedlings in 60 min, avergae of 4 min per graft. 8 TPM X juules, (ss02 etc) and 7 TPC X N1 seedlings. Fingers X'd Any1 else notice the high rate of triploid seedlings amongst nitrogens freak X's? I have noticed quite a few wat appear to be triploids or they have tree seed leaves any ways as apposed to the usual two. Peace N
mushroomman Posted March 11, 2013 I noticed a lot of them too, the last lot of my seedling grafts I did the same amount but in half the time which was very stupid of me I will never rush grafts again, only 8 have started growing after about 6weeks 3have failed and the other 3 I applied some BAP to try and give them a kick start. CβL Posted March 11, 2013 I just watered my cacti, as I haven't been watering them enough. A couple of new pups here and there, and not much new growth. Basically I think they're playing it safe, as the amount of water they get (not heaps), isn't enough to turn into full-on veg mode. I hope that I can get them to go nuts, and finish my garden before winter hits.

slice Posted March 12, 2013 (edited) bogfog: under lights during their first winter, and their second (now) in a greenhouse.Full sun in between and mineral ferts frequently , I switch to organics later on... by the way, I registerd 38C inside the greenhouse on the first week of Feb. (winter in Europe). Its been 10 months since I bought it and its truly amazing, plants just keep growing... Edited March 12, 2013 by slice
Optimystic Posted March 13, 2013 I put my first round of cacti outdoors today whilst chewing on a dandelion rootProbably these didnt' need to come in side but as they had barely rooted I decided to keep them free from frostMostly chollas and opuntias , a few little monsters too... only one I know isn't listed as frost hardy ... most of these will be in the ground pretty soon after i prepare some bedsI also gave a 2nd light watering to many of my trichos and moved a couple of them a little ways out of the shade... Im guessing I won't need to overwinter many of these at the end of the year ... I've got my work cut out for me this spring
.dg Posted March 14, 2013 you nailed it mate... I got another strombo disciformis blooming at the same time, ya think I should try for pollination? strombodisciDSC_0697.jpg is that discoloration near the bottom of the plant typical? (mite damage?)

Nemisty Posted March 15, 2013 Man did I do well this week! Picked these two up for just $35. Always good when people dont include vital keywords in online auctions and you just stumble across them.

And if i didn't loose a few each year i'd need a bigger greenhouse really quickly. and thats not in the cards at the moment

bit Posted March 15, 2013 They look a lot like macrogonus I have grown from seed, and would be the right size for a couple I sold on TM a year or so ago... did they happen to mention where they came from? Man did I do well this week! Picked these two up for just $35. Always good when people dont include vital keywords in online auctions and you just stumble across them. Nemisty Posted March 15, 2013 They came from Christchurch. The people selling them had them in the garden when they bought the house. Whenever that was. So no clues as to their origins. I was really hoping they would be Blenheim peruvianus. But still, not complaining. The big one has hardly any roots on it. Should be enough time left in the summer for it to develop a few more. .dg Posted March 15, 2013 I take my hat off to you growing in temps like that dg420. Pretty awesome looking collection you got going in that green house. its a lot easier out here than back east or mid-west at least mine can stay outside in the green house year round. those folks doing "dormant" time in the basement really have a labor of love
bogfrog Posted March 16, 2013 Today was a day for some pre-winter reshuffling. Always an enjoyable activity, like tetris with cactus pots. Lots of seedlings were upgraded to premium real-estate in the greenhouse and a few succulents and various cacti were evicted and moved outside or down to the house to make room. Lophs are still flowering, i noticed while tickling them with a paintbrush that the pollen stems fold into the centre like a sea anenome when touched. I was quite surprised, the reaction was very fast and obvious, they moved as fast as a mimosa pudica shutting its leaves
