Foo
Ive got some lovely reds in bloom atm. Pretty standard compared to an ornamentle though. I was really impressed by the lower size though, as flowing is not the greatest thing that comes from my small small outdoor space.
Heretic
I get my seed from the local bakery each year . They usually give me a pie - bag full for a dollar or two . They grow huge pods , with a white flower and a lilac fleck on the petals . I suspect they are the " Persian White " variety , but uncertain of this ID . Heretic
good call Naja - makes sense as a by -product . Thanks . Never bothered to milk them , just toss em in the garden . I read somewhere that the Tassie type is bred for thebaine alks , and is otherwise useless . Is that correct ? Nice in the garden though . bℓσωηG
I have noticed Persian white poppy seeds for sale in the spice rack inside a fancy gourmet shop recently , wonder if they'd grow ...

Yawning Man
The tasmanian variety bred specifically for thebaine don't make it out of the farms. And the seed is destroyed to prevent it coming into commercial markets. White with a purple fleck is where it's at!cheers

White with a purple fleck is where it's atYawning Man can you verify this satement below...Tasmanian Poppies are generally pale lilac with purple inners. They are giants but have often oval pods rather than the large round ones seen on the giganthium strains. They have a higher concentration on codeine and bupeine which often means they are not stolen from gardens by drug seekers due to the alkaloids found in them from: http://opiumpoppies.co.nz/poppy-types/ I have also read this is the case with specifically bred tassie poppies in a thread here someplace , i dont think gran is after higher codiene levels really... she is thinking of a nice Turkish strain striking colour and full bodied aroma <___base_url___>/uploads/emoticons/default_innocent_n.gif
Yawning Man
Hey BlowngYeah, in my own experience that statement is pretty spot on. I assume Lilac is another word for white? Or some sort of white colour? Although I have seen many plants that have a sort of stained pink colour running through most of the petal. And the pods do have a longish oval shape. PmdcheersEdit: Spelling and adding more shit Edited October 29, 2011 by Yawning Man
ENtiTY
Thebaine is pretty dangerous stuff. Especially if you took a dose thinking it was the regular alk profile variety. Would be deaths for sure if those seeds got into the market so they make sure they don't. Their bound by duty of care. This is how I understand it based upon my understanding of the law.

ENtiTY
Oh forgot to add that I have some Papaver somniferum alba if your interested. Throws single and double flowers that are pure white on the inside of the petal with a dash of purple on the outside of the petal right at its base. Seed is a light tan colour. Found in an old historic private garden that was owned by botanists.
Heretic
the bakery poppies look just like the white type [ Tassie ] on the link on BlownG 's post # 11 . Naja called it correctly .
ENtiTY
Here is an example of the Papaver somniferum alba similar to the one I have. Looks like someone has tried to milk them If that someone had of done some research they would have found that the alba contains very little morhine etc
