Does it need to be that long? I understand its purpose of course

What IS its purpose?

The only time it is a problem is when I make a typo and can't re-search straight away. It IS a little annoying though.

Flood control is enabled. Please wait at least 20 seconds before attempting to search again

There appears to be only one flood control setting, bit silly that it covers searches too. it will have to stay though as removing flood control caused quite a few problems with spammers last time. Without flood control a bot can make hudnreds of posts on the blogs in a matter of minutes and it takes hours to delete them again.

It's not a server load problem - that would have had a separate reason at the time and would ahve been very temporary.

couldnt flood control be removed for members2? I cant remember exactly but i thought that was designed to deter spammers as they would have to make a certain number of non suspicious posts before moving to the less restricted member group?

I think flood control is global and not set per member group, sorry.

Thanks for the reply.

The 20 seconds does get a bit annoying but I guess if waiting 20secs is an issue then maybe I have bigger mental issues to overcome

haha, twenty seconds seems like a long time if you just sit there and wait. I just go take a piss or something, haha. Look on the bright side, at least it's not a porn site. :ana::lol:

Using google to search the forum is a better option and one that doesnt run into the flood controll issue

have removed the flood control for members groups 2 and above. we've been able to catch most spammers in level 1, so let's see how this goes.

Interesting, this will speed up my own searches but i always worked around it in the past.

well nevermind it is still active and at 20 sec for me, but i can deal with it by waiting 20 seconds

hmmm, archae, the settign i changed is not the existence of the flood control [which is global], but a permission to certain user groups to bypass floodcontrol. To be honest I have no idea how that works in practical terms. There must be an option in your profile or even during the search that will allow you to bypass. any feedback appreciated.

I cant see any options. Maybe its built into the software, non changeable.

Did anyone figure out how to disable the "wait for 20 seconds" thing?
