Thelema Posted March 18, 2011 pretty odd considering australia supplies the worlds largest amount of Hyoscine derived from this plant. I wonder where that plantation is?
mac Posted March 18, 2011 (edited) A member has some seed for sale at the moment collected from SA i believe http://www.shaman-australis.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=27252&st=0&p=295100&hl=+duboisia%20+hopwoodii%20+&fromsearch=1entry295100 i thought that a majority of the actives used in pharmaceutics (buscopan)etc is from Duboisia myoporoides? most is grown in Germany from what i have read what other medications etc. are derived from Duboisia hopwoodii ? Torsten Posted March 18, 2011 pretty odd considering australia supplies the worlds largest amount of Hyoscine derived from this plant. I wonder where that plantation is? The label on the australian product was wrong. There are no viable amounts of hyoscine in D.hopwoodii. The alkaloid is derived from D.myoporoides or rather a hybrid with leichhardtii. All the plantations sell to one processor which supplies to one german company for manufacture. It is a highly protected and secretive industry. There are no Duboisia plantations in germany. Mycot Posted March 19, 2011 if this shrub is native to the interior region of Australia, then my grandma is Shirley Temple, considering everything else is so abundant its hard to believe how hard it is to get this plant if anybody has any leads id greatly appreciate it This species is indeed widespread in Australia with several different chemotypes existing only some of which were highly valued. Personally I beleive that more phytochemical research needs to be done on this most significant of Australian drug plants.
Torsten Posted March 19, 2011 Personally I beleive that more phytochemical research needs to be done on this most significant of Australian drug plants. That work has been done, but it just hasn't been publishd yet. Hopefully in the next year or so.
