PD. Posted February 5, 2011 Was a boring rainy day here so it was into the greenhouse to see what i could graft. I wanted to graft some of my lil super pedro x J3 crests but the etoliated pedro tips i like to use for smaller grafts still need to throw roots so it was lophs and some of the T. peru crest from hamitons on the chopping board today with whatever stocks i could find layin about the place. I got about 10 grafts done then i ran out of tape. I took the camera in so i could get some shots of the lil crests before i hacked them but they didnt get hacked, i just got carried away takin pics instead Picture 10 shows my high tech method of doing grafts, clear packing tape and dunny paper. I leave it on for 2-4 days then off it comes, never lets me down.

hutch Posted February 5, 2011 (edited) Real nice.....I have a long way to go to catch up with you but I am enjoying the process....I reckon they are comforting and therapeutic. edit: do you need the sun house because of your location or is it better to grow Cati in.. PD. Posted February 5, 2011 is that water on the ground inside your greenhouse? Yep, it was flooded this morning even though it is on a slight slope. The water gets in there and sits, i generally dont worry bout it but today i made a lil drain where the hose connection goes in so i could get rid of it all. Causes no problems. do you need the sun house because of your location or is it better to grow Cati in.. Yep, it is good to grow the seedlings in and other plants that like a little shade such as lophs. It gets freakn hot in there at times in summer, around 50+ but it doesnt seem to bother the plants much at all.
PD. Posted February 5, 2011 (edited) btw Gilligan, this is the graft you sent me many moons ago. Has been repeatedly hacked but i have let it go for a lil while now to fill out again......... then itll cop the blade once more. I had it hacked back to the 2 main heads and just a couple of tiny pups last time around, hasnt taken it long to get back to what it is now, i think the last time it was raped was when Sharx was here and we did some drinkn and graftin haha. PD. Posted February 5, 2011 how long have you been collecting cacti and what got you interested I began collecting in 2006 mate, had a few lil ones and some lithop as a kid so i guess i always had an interest and have always loved growing things. PD are those trays so you can bottom water easily? Yep thats it. Makes life a lot easier and ensures the plants get a good soaking PS With what can I entice you to trade some of the super pedro x J3 crest. Variegated Peruvian? Im not sure as yet mate hehe. There should be plenty to go around once my next lot of stocks gets some roots down and fattens up so for now its a waiting game due to exploitative 3bay idiots talking about 'effin strength. Indeed! I sent off a friendly lil email to some douche just the other day actually. It mad me cringe it was that blaze. Some people are just down right fu**ed in the head for real and there is just no need for it at all especially at this point in time. Im yet to get a response from him or her LOL
lickapop Posted February 5, 2011 Very nice. Do you wait until your stock has roots with all your grafts or do you just hack off a piece of stock and graft it straight away then leave it callous for a couple of weeks?
shortly Posted February 5, 2011 PD do you think you might have problems with humidity with all the water about?
tripsis Posted February 5, 2011 Very nice collection and grafts PD. I look forward to seeing how those crests develop. Keep up the good work!
mac Posted February 6, 2011 I did a couple of regrafts myself yesterday, One was a loph i knew didn't take last time. I noticed it was sprouting roots so thought id regraft to pach , it had a strange solid brown but moist almost cristaline (dry rot ) about half way through It almost looked like it was forming masses of root tissue or pups amongst the brown tissue
gilligan Posted February 6, 2011 Grin... thanks for the update with that PD, i always wonder how she fared... Looking very purty, and awesome you've been able to keep propagating I knew she was gonna be a good one (she was close to, if not, my very first graft), stoked you cared for her so well! Double thumbs up...
PD. Posted February 6, 2011 PD do you think you might have problems with humidity with all the water about? Nah not at all, is about the 5th time this summer she has flooded. 3 of my 4 large inground plantings were flooded also the past few days, 3rd time it has happened this summer, starting to become a pain in the arse all this water around flooding the gardens. Got a bit of basal rot on a few super pedro plants and a tiny bit on a few others but only one had to be chopped down, the rest healed up fine but now this recent flood might do some damage although it drains away fairly rapidly. PD. Posted February 6, 2011 Do you wait until your stock has roots with all your grafts or do you just hack off a piece of stock and graft it straight away then leave it callous for a couple of weeks? I always wait till my stock has roots and has fattened up before i graft. I believe the scions take faster and obviously starts regrowth quicker due to the stock being able to feed them right away. Pacha Posted February 6, 2011 WOW, what an amazing porn, PD you're the man! :D Your grafts are huge and look very happy. Best luck raising these baby arios(Fissuratus?) and new crests. Nice variegation you got there as well, what kind of cactus is it? Please continue to update!
