I have a Merck index cd, so that info is kind of moot for me, but good for people who don't have one and need at least a starting point!

Dam , after all this time it's so simple. I was scared to mail order it because i always thought the postage would be extreme for such a big book. Now an e-book , there's an idea (DOH....)

Have you used Microsoft Access?

The Merck CD is just a very very large access database with a sort of form front end where you can enter query fields like... "Chemical common name" or "LD50" or "Derivative" and it'll return all the chemicals that have that name, or have the LD50 you enter, or have derivatives you entered, etc.

It's kind of crude, and one day I will purchase the book, but as it stands (considering I do 99% of my work and research on the computer) it's good enough.

lol very scientific wats the difference between

fsol. = Freely soluble

infs. = Infinitely soluble

msol. = Moderatly soluble

sps. = Sparingly soluble

ssol. = Slightly soluble

vsol. = Very soluble

vss. = Very slightly soluble

is that in order of most soluble to least????

Yes :)

Think of it in percentages. Top one is 100% solubility, then sliding scale down to probably 5-10%.

Edit: To answer why the soluability abrbeviations werent in order of soluability, I arranged the abbreviation explanations alphabetically by the abbreviation for ease of use. The order in terms of soluability, greatest to least, is as follows:

Infinitely soluble

Very soluble

Freely soluble

Moderately Soluble

Sparingly soluble

Slightly soluble

Very slightly soluble
