lots of fruit and veggies!! make sure if your eating fruit that this be done at least half an hour before eating any other foods otherwise it will rott in your stomach and no nutrients will be pulled.. fruits nutrients are pulled in the intestines rather then the stomach so if fruit/ veggies are eaten with a hardy meal (meat, bread, anything concentrated) it will sit in your stomach with everything else for the next 3 - 8 hours waiting to digest. concentrated foods usually require an acid in the stomach to break down the food before passing, fruit requires an alkaline.. so put 2 and 2 together and the stomach neutralizes and is unable to digest anything.. this process repeats another 2 - 3 times wasting all your precious energy before the stomach just pushes it through anyway.... with nothing good taken!

IF you can get it, SUMA (pfaffia paniculata) a brazilian type of ginseng increases energy and strengthens the immune system, regulates blood sugar and is proven to reduce cancers. this is ideal for people thats diets aren't the best...

otherwise pretty much any fruit or vegetable is the way to go.. should try to prevent the problem thats causing the issue rather then just fix the symptoms.

peace.

it's what we should be striving for i guess... health is the most important part of our life! smile.gif if your garden was full of weeds, you wouldn't just chuck some mulch on top to cover up the issue before pulling them. This is basically what most people do when they aren't feeling right.. they run to the medicine cabinet and find something to cover that problem up instead of actually having a think about why they might be feeling that way.. anyway enough dribble! haha.

Sounds like the "Fit for Life" diet. I ate strictly according to this thinking for about 6 months and it really does make a huge difference to your energy levels. A big part of it was not eating carbs and proteins at the same time, which is where I eventually slipped back a bit. Still try to be conscious of it and eat probably half according to this method and half not.

Meh, better than nothing.

To Dr Dognuts, do you take any vitamin/mineral supplements? In combination with good food (IMO) this is a great way to get the body working the way it's meant to.

This guy talks like a real hick, but he has some interesting things to say.

Some may laugh at my view on this subject but I find that not keeping a super clean house is a part of a maintaining a strong immune system.

Short term help...

Drink a litre of cranberry juice a day.

Snack on Goji berries and ried fruits and nuts, eat organic, stay away from fatty fried foods and when using oils to cook with use a cold pressed olive oil.

Eat fruit like avocado's and bananas.

Drink at least 2 litres of water a day.

Get regular blood checks and ask for the reports to show white blood cell counts.

maintain a strong regime of balanced vitamin intake through food not supplements.

Listen to body cravings and follow them up...not talking about hanging out for a big mac here either...things like strawberry cravings or cravings for fish or types of bread.

Try to stop smoking, meditate when possible and dive your mind to your insides and look around like a nanobot for any problems and get rid of them through mind power.

Don't drink alcohol is a great one too, although many will be against me on this one.

Stimulate your mind with interesting topics, a healthy mind encourages a healthy temple.

Take a natural psychedelic a couple of times a year and try to voyage into your body and minds negatives and deal with them, ask questions while you are there and come away with answers you can work on afterward.

Become a Buddhist.

Don't get sucked into modern life and all it's so called shitty conveniences.

Don't have debts or financial woes, live simply so others may simply live, stay completely within your budget and don't over extend your finances or take out any loans that put pressue on your mind for extended periods.

keep your stress levels to an absolute minimum and stop worrying about every little thing.

travel to foreign countries and open your mind to other cultures and practices.

take up hobbies like photography and art.

Don't get married or have children.

Dedicate some time to your favorite cause a few times a year.

Get a allergy test and find out what allergies you have then frame up a healthy diet so as to never come into contact with any other allergenic things.

Don't eat junk food more than a couple of times a year.

Go to a massage clinic 12 times a year and enjoy the pleasures of a professional massage.

Stop drinking soft drinks and in particular any of these so called energy drinks that are full of crappy caffeine and guarana nonsense.

Work for enjoyment not money, don't buy things you don't absolutely need and resist consumerism and materialism.

Listen to music rather than watch TV, read a book rather than a tacky gossip magazine.

Make a beautiful ethno garden and spend time in it.

See a qualified specialist that can check your metabolism, understand your metabolic rates and feed yourself according to this understanding.

Don't be lazy

Don't talk about people behind their back unless it's something positive.

Compliment people rather than slag them off.

Exercise regularly and stretch your muscles and limbs..isometrics, yoga and swimming are the very best way to energize your mind and chakra's.

Watch documentaries on life and nature as often as possible.

Drive a fuel efficient vehicle and only drive it when absolutely necessary.

Don't deal or sell drugs and don't get addiction to drugs of dependence, know your limits and enjoy them sparingly.

Don't fear death embrace it...if you like to pray for things pray to gaia and push some of your positive energy and love to her and help the healing of this delicate planet.

He he. Thought I was having major site issues.

I agree with most of what you've posted, my only discomfort is the vitamins from food thing. I just don't trust that our food is as vitamin rich as it should be. If I could grow all my own food, I'd be on board, but my garden just isn't big enough. Organic fruit and veg gets you part of the way there, and there's still a whole lot of food that just doesn't seem quite right.

I eat mostly fresh fruit and veg, a lot of it raw. Whole grain foods etc... and If I have a vitamin supplement, I feel on top of my game. Without, I just feel a little bit lower. What's your take on this, Chiral?

Multi-vitamin supplements give me vertigo (not fear of heights, a dizzy sensation). So i also am with Chiral on the 'get nutrients from food' though i am a vegetarian (non vegan)and sometimes have protein shakes, the occasional vitamin B and some magnesium ( and some other natural stuff). If you are going to take supplements, take them individually for what you need, eg.B complex or Zinc or iron etc. I also agree with Chiral on the "don't get married or have kids" and i HAVE told my husband!

Edit: i suppose there are some people who are happily married ,and you know, the kids ain't bad all of the time

Getting vitamins and nutrients from foods is a better way because it has to go through a different process in your system to disperse them for bio-availabilty, supplements are short acting and don't follow the same metabolic pathways, they are dispelled from the body faster and not stored and used naturally like food supplied ones do.

You get an instant high from most multivitamins supplements and the feeling tend to dissipates rather quickly, proper storage of food derived vitamins in you system allows for them to be slow release at a more natural rate ...in other words your body is designed for this type of use, not dumped powders and gels that pas through quickly.

Understand the food pyramid and seek out the appropriate food groups that suit your bodies metabolism and energy levels. As adults we have a larger body mass to propel through the daily routine, not like children who have small bodies and use less energy as their body mass is much smaller.

Seek out slow release foods like oatmeal and you will have a longer sustained release of energy which can carry you longer throughout the day...oatmeal is a favorite of mine, so is cranberry juice and goji berries, greens like raw spinach and rocket are also slow release vitamins which give you great feelings of energy for long term throughout the day...if you eat a gren salad at lunch with some tomatoes or pine nuts you will not get those 2 o'clock sleepy's I guarantee it...stay away from complex carbs at these times and choose vitamin rich fresh foods and nuts and small portions of wholemeal or nutty bread.

Carry trial mix around with you everywhere and much on it continuously for extended levels of eneergy and your skin will glow also after a few weeks due to the natural oils.

Also forgot to mention one that my partner swears by and that's eating chillies every single day...it's incredible how often she never has a cold or feels unwell...and she smokes and has done for 20 years...she hasn't ever coughed once from smoking...crazy as.. or what.

She also has this healing tecnique that uses a coin and some oil...you drip oil across the back then they rub the coin along the back following the spine and rib cage it has to rubbed hard ,,,u rub the coin across oil really hard leaving really violent looking scars or welts...the person doing it burps the sickness out through their mouth...the patient is healed within 20 mins of this treatment...I still have no idea how it works and am quite skeptical but it seems to work for her and the people who do it for her...they all swear it works...I've tried to do it for her but can't as it makes me cringe to hurt her skin and seems so masochistic to me...it's brutal ass and leaves these major welts for days across her back like tiger stripes..when woman has period pains or stomach upsets or even a headache...they use it commonly, it's so wild I can't understand how they do it...it's called karrochan..? not sure of spelling...

But my wife swears by korrachan and eating chillies everyday.

I was waiting for someone to say that

'Best' treatment depends on desired effect.

Hell, we actually have two immune systems- you wouldnt want to blindly give a big boost to the innate system for an infected cut or burns.

Boosting the entire immune system without preference or control can cause damage to joints, nerves, brain, etc.

Thats why adaptogens are so nifty, they'll boost various systems if those systems need it.

In western culture, though, often the best way to improve and broadly 'boost' the immune system is to get rid of horrifically unhealthy habits as variously listed in above posts.

yep! indeed it is a fit for life diet/ way of thinking smile.gif i read this book about 2 or 3 years ago now and have had no complaints.. only been sick once of twice and rarely ever feel like shit (even after big nights). I recommend this way of living to everyone, 'fit for life' is a must read! and i defiantly agree when it comes down to eating carbs/ starch with proteins (combining them) I can feel my stomach reject my meal when ever i get a bit too lazy in this department.

Guest svarg26

quite easy really. become an organic vegan. eat food as you pick it from your garden, which is when the food has its highest nutrient content. watch the doco "food matters". in my opinion it is the greatest and most important doco ever made. try to eat food as raw as possible. if you eat healthy, you never have to boost your immune system. 5 years as an organic vegan and i have never been sick and never felt so good.

give it a go.

Wank three times under the shade of a silver wattle at midnight on the August 10 new moon...

Nah seriously, you can have some of mine - its overboard at times LOL.

Id go with chinese medicine - astragulus, ginseng, goji and dang shen are all reputed to provide an immune boost. Stop smoking weed also helps as it can depress immune function in some people.

"goji" is more of a stamina adaptogen according to scientific studies, for immune adaptogen berries Schisandra chinensis would probably be a better choice, and black elderberry is evidently pretty helpful against flu.

If youve got high blood pressure or anxiety forget the ginseng and use ashwagandha.
