incognito Posted May 11, 2010 im slowly getting into folk music, looking at buying my first ukelele, its such a mad instrument! would love to be able to just go mental on one of those things!! i dig mumford and sons(alot) and have started listening to the pogues. man is the lead singer hardcore!!! he puts the punk genre to shame!!! if you youtube the pogues u will get what i mean! anyhow im after some recommendations of some good, fast folk music~ cheers!! i be out on my verandah wittlin' some! holymountain Posted May 11, 2010 time to get folked!! go get a uke incog, i've always wanted one too. beautiful little things. we'll start a folk group together! some of my favourite albums...i guess you'd call them folkish... nick drake- five leaves left, bryter layter and pink moon. all beautiful, gorgeous early 70s folk albums. his guitar playing is some of the finest you'll hear. check out drake's story. a very sad one indeed. the last album 'pink moon' is particularly intense, beautiful and sad. bruce springsteen- nebraska this is bruce in his quiet, storytelling acoustic mode. recorded on a 4-track in his bedroom. it's a really haunting album. waaay better than his american rock anthems that he is so well known for. skip spence- OAR a late 60's folk oddity. psychedelic and unique stuff. this guy is a legend! grateful dead- american beauty known for their extended psych jams and freak out music this the dead's 'folk' album. beautiful acoustic tracks with plenty of harmonies. this is probably one of my favourite albums ever. it's a timeless beautiful classic. i want the track 'ripple' played at my funeral. you'll dig it i know you will.
