Awesome work mate! What temps are you finding these fruit at? Colder than subs?

Pretty hard to say Tripsis first flush was ready on easter sunday, but they are still readily fruiting. I think they will keep fruiting when its too cold for subs. Fugen chooks again :slap: apparently totaly destroyed a tub of sub col'd chips.

Averages

Mean Max. °C 26.5 25.6 23.9 20.7 16.7 13.4 12.7 14.2 17.7 20.9 23.7 25.8

This month: http://reg.bom.gov.au/climate/dwo/IDCJDW2047.latest.shtml

We had a few hard frosts in a row, musta been those 3 days below zero in the link. Realy slowed them down but did'nt stop them.

Its the same patch in the 1st post but was expanded 4x size with mostly poplar a huge one blew down in the park apparently, those things smash into beautiful size logs & a few oak logs & mostly willow chips (treeblokes do'nt like willow cause it reshoots so much, no good for mulch. ).

Cool, thanks for that. I do wonder if they need colder temos than subs. You're in a perfect climate for them where you are.

Do you chip the wood yourself?

just got some mycelium of some azure's

collinised agar in about 2 days...should be interesting to see what it does to the wood chips.

They do seem to like it hear Tripsis. No mate, I know where the treelopper dumps his willow & council piles (just gotta check what woods in them). Would love a chipper, bastid next door neighbour was makin me jealous the other day. New house going up across the road & chopped down some tree's, picked up a heap of willow & a few privot branches the other day & I've got plenty more poplar & willow stockpiled aswell. Could certainly use one.

What sorta chips you gonna use chef?, they are pretty unstopable once you get them going. Good luck with it.

Pic of 1st flush before chooks got to it.

Awesome work! What sort of altitude is this at? I wonder if this would be possible in a suburban backyard with minimal rain.

1060 odd metres Duder, I think it very well would be possible, pretty hardy mycelium, worth a try anyway.

Thanks guys.

any green to the dried stain?

azures could apparently rekindle interest in the little smoke....much more there than cubes or subs ,low dose could be felt building for a half hour .....

 No not realy Tantra, dried stain from dark blue to black. Thats very interesting Tantra, as always I value your contribution & your willingness to tread where others do'nt :).

I dunno but I think baeocystin & or nor-baeo might very well play a big part. Fresh these things are incredible apparently very good dry also & keep very well but fresh has a certain extra sparkle, so I'm told.

Second flush of a different patch, mostly eucy & pine but a little of a better wood. 1st flush did'nt have followup rain & aborted at 1cm max.

post-2263-127556330697_thumb.jpg

post-2263-12755633596_thumb.jpg

Another patch mostly poplar logs with one oak log & poplar, willow, eucy chip mix. 1st time this ones fruited, been in about 16 months.

post-2263-127556347406_thumb.jpg

Both of these had'nt been getting much rain because of Acacia canopy but branches overhanging were removed & both fruited shortly after  . I think Acacia is a good native candidate.

Poplar chip bed with weeds out of the catcher on the mower thrown over it.

there was also some crushed granite dust and agregate and a bit of soil dumped on it too.

dry weather has resulted in splitting of caps.

it has endured a week of >40degC (2days up to 47degC!)

now this.

Apart from the occasional bit of water over summer and a bit of waste water draining from evaporative air conditioner,

they're left to their own devices.

Definitely not pampered or fussed over.

Survivors in quite a harsh climate!

some observations - azures and continental american cyans fruited in the dead of winter (junish) at a lower altitude of about 250 metres. They like it colder than the local subs.

Does anyone know if Azures in an outdoor bed need additional watering in the peak of summer or in an extended dry spell, or can the mycelium survive a dry spell ?

Very nice Gecko, unusual mix, with the dust & agregate, was this on purpose?

Mycelium should e able to survive a dry spell MagicDirt (nice handle, I used to be so in love with Adalita, Aarggh), suplemental watering is probly best done when the patch is establishing if its dry, I would imagine you would need a very prolonged dryspell to kill an established patch.

Those last 2 sets of pics had'nt recieved suplemental watering in over a year & were under an Acacia canopy that kept alot of rain off them & they still fruited.

This (1st one from last post) has since recieved some suplemental watering. Pins everywhere pob 100-200 on a 5' x 6' area, the original patch was only about 5' x 4' but animals have disturbed it & spread it a little & the myc must be running through & fruiting from the Acacia litter at the sides.

post-2263-1276046651_thumb.jpgpost-2263-127604880972_thumb.jpg

A canopy only seems to hinder unless you can make a nice hole in the canopy, small shrubs would work alot better I think.

Sorry Tantra, yes you do get a bit of a green stain on the more dried out caps, the ones that are light gold as oposed to the caramel caps.

Yeah sort of, it hadn't done anything for 2 yrs so I thought I'd give it a bit of a 'kick in the guts'

Bury some of the colonised chip under dirt, introduce more nutrients,

bacterial activity from fresh cut weeds etc. y'know disturb it a bit.

There just happened to be a pile of quarry dust and agregate there so I chucked a bit on the patch.

nothing was hapening before that, except mycelial growth, so I changed things.

btw, I found another patch today where some had come up :drool2: .

I remember throwing some colonized chip under some other chip mulch in

a depression I dug to plant a tree two years ago.

It's just habit I guess.

Whenever I plant a tree I alwaws just put some sort of fungi in the mulch.

I seems right to start the trees off with some fungal friends for company :)

the tree died from not being watered enough during summer so I abandoned it.

that was over a year ago and needless to say i didn't water it last summer.

The average rainfall here is around 350mm per year here, mostly winter with Hot,dry summers.

since mid 90's it's been less ave. rainfall than that.

So yeah, they aparently can handle long dry periods,

but of course do better if in a thick bed of material to keep cool and to hide in.

Pics of the 'wild' patch that has recieved suplemental watering, about 25L a day on a 6' x5' area but a day was missed here or there apparently. These pics were taken about a week after the last ones.
