PD. Posted December 8, 2008 I havent been paying alot of attention to tha lil ones of late but a few of them put on a show today. All but one of my Turbinies have split since ive had them, lil buggers dont seem to like a great deal of watering, they still flower tho and like to hide themselves in the gravel anyways. _e_ Posted December 9, 2008 (edited) Will the real super ped please stand up. damien, cant see past the flowers to the plants behind them.. but: for reference, i dont know its been covered here as ive not been around, but there were actually two different plants being circulated as 'super ped'... the first which was initially made available to me in melbourne appeared more like a short spined peruvian/pach looking specimen.. i have been told this is the 'true super ped', in that it looks quite pachanoid however is a lot more potent and akin in personality/vigour to bridg. the second and more commonly circulated plant is actually E.roseii, which is like a spined scop... i had acquired two distinctive plants under the name super ped, the short spined scop being identified to me as E.roseii and the more peruvian looking specimen being identified by people active when the plant first surfaced in melbourne as being the 'real super ped'... ao i dont know how it happened but it perplexed me at the time and thought the roseii to be the real super ped as its what was being traded a lot on the forums... I amalso told that specimens of the original 'real super ped' are few and far between, so if ur lucky enough to have some then propagate like crazy plant lov.e Edited December 9, 2008 by _e_

PD. Posted December 28, 2008 Will the real super ped please stand up.damien, cant see past the flowers to the plants behind them.. but: for reference, i dont know its been covered here as ive not been around, but there were actually two different plants being circulated as 'super ped'... the first which was initially made available to me in melbourne appeared more like a short spined peruvian/pach looking specimen.. i have been told this is the 'true super ped', in that it looks quite pachanoid however is a lot more potent and akin in personality/vigour to bridg. the second and more commonly circulated plant is actually E.roseii, which is like a spined scop... i had acquired two distinctive plants under the name super ped, the short spined scop being identified to me as E.roseii and the more peruvian looking specimen being identified by people active when the plant first surfaced in melbourne as being the 'real super ped'... ao i dont know how it happened but it perplexed me at the time and thought the roseii to be the real super ped as its what was being traded a lot on the forums... I amalso told that specimens of the original 'real super ped' are few and far between, so if ur lucky enough to have some then propagate like crazy plant lov.e OK, ill try my best to explain. The plant i have which i refer to as super pedro is called as such by the person i get it from who has called it that for many many years, he has supplied a major distributor in melbourne for many many years also, he also supplied the said distributor with regular pach and an amount of bridgesii. So in actual fact the plant you say was collected in melbourne would more than likely be the same plant! That said, like all trichos there can be dramatic differences of appearance due to growing conditions such as climate, sun exposure etc, i have had super pedro cuttings that look like regular pach thru to heavily spined monsters which look nothing like a regular pach at all. I have never heard of T. roseii being called super pedro and when i finally got some roseii from the garden it was imported to in the late 1920s it is easy to see it is a straight peruvianus (with long and short spined variants) hence the name roseii (T. peruvianus was originally named T. roseii to avoid confusion with C. peruvianus) IME it is roseii which is rare as hens teeth in these circles and therefore would be the more desired plant for prop. Roseii is without doubt the most beautiful tricho strain we have here in Au! It is an awesome blue coloured peruvianus that is hard to be mistaken for anything else, like i mentioned is rarely seen in collections it has to been seen in all its splendour to be fully appreciated. If you have any pics of the plants you mentioned E i would really like to see them, it would help a great deal in sorting out the naming of the plants! anyways, here are a couple lil copiapoas that flowered today, the large T. pach is about to fully flower, opening tonite followed by psycho0, yowie and a few more J3 flowers please excuse the quality of the pics, my camera is playin up and i had to use my phone
Chiral Posted December 28, 2008 Welcome back man...we all missed ya here lately...please post pics of your Tricho flowers...I love seein' em. H.
_e_ Posted December 28, 2008 it seems the source of my information (and plants) may well have had it all back to front.. (or vice versa) what made me think that the roseii was the scop like chunky monster was that i saw some plants labelled roseii collected by a true cactophile and took it as conformation. the plant of which we speak that u have labelled roseii and i have been labelling 'true super ped' is in my opinion the most beautiful/majestic plant in australia that has come out of the old school australian collections. there are a few new strains springing into propagation alongside said plant that (i.m.h.o) are going to blow ppls minds once fully proppd out and made available. will get photos next time im near said plants.. somehow my phone and camera always slip my attention in said environs. PD. Posted December 30, 2008 Well, i shouldnt have slept in today. The bees beat me to the pollen on the psycho0 flowers plus i dont think the small sprinkling of rain helped much either. Pach is pretty much done flowering for now and the super pedro and J3 have opened their last also.
