Psychedelic Comedy

Recommended Posts

Come with me now on a journey through time and space.

For those who havnt seen The Mighty Boosh it is an absolute crack up. Totally mental, deranged comedy. BBC series.

If you watched it off your head, you would have to watch it again straight just to be sure you actually saw what you saw.

:worship: The Mighty Boosh :worship:

For me it is the random non linear story arc and the impossible situations that make little sense and the ridiculous and amusing resolutions among other things.

Would you not agree that the subjects of the comedy are characterized by a shift in perception and liberation or rather a vast departure from of normal reality, both aurally and visually?

Garth Merenghis Darkplace is great! Its production humour leaves me in fits.

But in regards to the boosh having psychedelic references I thought I could could see it.

-----------------------------------------

Bar lady: I like your dress...

Rudy: This is not a dress. This is a sacred robe of the ancient psychedelic monks.

Bar lady: Why don't you stay awhile?

[flashes to him]

Rudy: Put away those fiery biscuits...

-----------------------------------------

Remember the time we had that soup?

Oh, yeah! That was brilliant!

Soup, souper tasty, soup, souper spicy, carrot and coriander,

Chilli chowder.

Crouton, crouton, crunchy friends in a liquid broth.

I am gazpacho, oh. I am a summer soup, mmm.

Miso, Miso, fighting in the dojo, Miso, Miso, Oriental prince in the land of soup!

Classic times.

Crazy days!

-----------------------------------------

Couldnt find any others for the moment...

oh yeah, it def has a psychedelic angle to it. kinda in the same way Zappa's music does, the humour is down that vein too!

can't think of any direct references... but there is the bit where Vince hands Milky Joe a drink that he drops (being that he is a coconut):

"What's the matter with you? Looks at your eyes, are you on pills?" lol

but the best bit is how the hookah-smoking shaman Naboo and his familiar Bollo the gorilla DJ aways end up saving the day

I'm sure that in one of the first episodes Vince mentions a night out on cheap wizz and a couple of "rolling stones"

First episode "Killeroo" - When Rich Fulcher aka Bob Fossil calls Howard into the office and proceeds to do the nipple dance to 10CC cracks me up every time "and that's why I don't like cricket".

Here is an interesting fact I found out on the dvd, the actor who plays Naboo is actually Vince's brother in real life.

Also, the actor who plays Naboo has been known to have big hair which his brother and friends have come to nick name 'the mighty boosh'...

So, there you go...
