I agree with Evolution North, bad taste. The context in which that photo was posted was low brow to say the least, dont try and cover your arse with this specious crap.

And FYI, although moderate/low consumption of Areca has been associated with lower incidence of dental caries (it was once added to tooth pastes and other preparations) , betel chewing also directly causes an increase in mouth ulcers and deterioration of the gums, which eventually results in total loss of teeth.

That the benefits of such a habit far outweigh any positive effects is very well documented....and don't bother saying you were only referring to 'responsible' or 'traditional' use, the woman in question (and btw, your repeated use of the word 'lady'/'ladies' is growing tiresome, so anachronistic it's cringeworthy. You sound like my grandfather) is obviously a regular consumer.

And this is to say nothing of Arecas carcinogenicity....if your teeth dont fall out, theres oral cancers to contend with.

Oh and as for admitting incorrectness, I believe it has been stated numerous times now that betel has little to no carcinogenity it is entirely the safrole type compounds from other ingredients in the quid that cause this issue.

There are no rules prohibiting pornography, but there have been numerous requests by members to please not post explicit material in threads that don't warrant it. This is because many members read these forums at work or with family. if you want to post explicit pics then host them elsewhere and link to them with WARNINGS, but don't embed them in the text. You can also ask the mod to put a warning in the title of the thread - which he might if the image is relevant.

I am sure we can talk plenty about ethnobotany and even most chill topics without constantly showing genitalia. I am sure it wouldn't be appreciated if I started posting hard dripping cocks in every post either, so use some common sense please.

No mention of that particular image, that came straight after my post and was obviously directed at me...would it have rated more attention if he had verbalised the image?
