Withania somnifera seed dosage

Recommended Posts

Cleaned Withania somnifera seed is listed as a hypnotic sedative but I have yet to find any dosage information or bioassays. Has anyone experimented with the seed or read reports on it?

I harvested and cleaned a crapload of seed and despite giving them away by the thousands at every opportunity I can tell I'll still have alot left over. Perhaps they have an alternate use?

I have not read nothing about psycoactivity of seeds, but it would be a good way to hold alive the plant for a long, and dont begin from zero after you harvest the roots.

Have you read something about psycoactivity of seeds?.

I havent really read anything to suggest actual psychoactivity... just multiple sources that refer to the seeds as a hypnotic diuretic.

Not precisely sure I want to try something that makes you pass out and pee simultaneously  but if the diuretic effect is mild or if the dose was insufficient to induce sleep it could be interesting.

Not sure if an infusion, decoction, or smoked extract would be the way to go.

Hypnotic effect can be obtained from smoking the leaves.

The mindset it puts me in, is indeed somehow reminiscent of tryptamines, and I honestly feel that the diuretic effect could be because of that?

(if that makes sense)

Seeds eh? I didn't even think of that as I'd heard (though I can't remember where) that the fruit causes nausea.

This might be a stupid question, but has anyone tried smoking the root or root-bark?

the berries are usually used for recovery from illness, for the elderly and to treat anaemia.

i have one berry usually, the taste is a little bitter esp if the seeds are chewed, slight nootropic[relaxation with clear thinking] effects and maybe a little feel good effect.

natural steroidal effects?

the leaves were foul to smoke uncured.

For the medicinal effects how many times a day do you use the berries? Can they be used in tandem with the root?

Any idea if the dried berries would retain potency stored in the dark at 4° C for 11 months? I only get one harvest a year.

auxin, inreply to your q's,i basically dont know.........withania root is used in multi grams a day traditionally so i assume its safe...........i usually have a berry once a day but i think higher dosing would be fine.......and i expect potency would be retained for 12 months.
