these people claim t. macrogonus is the same as t. pachanoi
myco replied to DiscoStu's topic in Cacti & Succulents
i think your right there stillman in that they are all part of a greater species and likely merely cultivars potentially created through ancient cultural/ religious uses. and yes its very likely that they will never come to a real answer I only own 2 macrogonus but they both definitely have some big differences between them one is Tipz macro the other is EG's Blue Macro and i can tell you they look very VERY different however going just of the looks of them both to me they almost seem like some kind of cross between peruvianus and something else possibly even bridgesii there definitely seems to be predominately peruvianus in there if you ask me however as stated above i dont think there will ever be a definitive answer to this i'd love to know more about it but its pretty unlikely there will be any definitive evidence to prove where exactly this species/cultivar originates from unfortunately i would have to disagree with allot of the findings from trouts notes no disrespect trucha but alot of your stuff is a little confusing and ill informed i dont claim to be an expert of any kind on cacti however i did read some of your work and i thought this persons review summed it up quite well http://www.trichocereus.com/trouts_snout.htm as i say I'm know expert and i mean no disrespect I'm sure you probably know a whole lot more than i do about this stuff but at the same time after reading some of your work and then finding this review this person seemed to hit the nail on the head as to my thoughts on what i had read of your work again no disrespect and i am know expert but trouts work seems to deliver nothing but even more confusion -
Beautiful plants as always mutant

anyone have any experience with Blossfeldia Liliputana
myco replied to myco's topic in Cacti & Succulents
So the 3 grafts I did (on the 20th of dec according to my last post I've really gotta start dating things) I Have kept them in the humidity chamber and they have taken well and are still lookin healthy enough no signs of growth yet so I'm gonna keep em in there at the moment But I'm still very pleased with the results so far I'll try and get some pics up later today -
nah none of those crazy humming noises i seen heaps of those vids its hard to say whats fake and whats real with them if any are even real there's allot of em though its a bit scary if i heard those noises i would have been shittin myself bad that's scary as haha the closest thing i can find to it was on a series i watched not to long ago called the unexplained files this is a clip from it of the booms in cape fear in north Carolina in the U.S. one guy managed to record the sounds and that's pretty much exactly what it sounded like only its very very loud it doesn't sound like its of in the distance it sounds really close
-
No humming noises and yeh we've had some earthquakes over recent years I can say it's definately not like the earthquakes I have experienced in the past they always seemed to come as a slow rumble that built up like a freight train or something coming through This is more like an explosion or like a sonic boom although it made the house shake it was very quick and loud I think at this point I'm gonna go with most likely fighter jets be interesting to see if i hear it again As I said I've only heard it the 2 times but my mum and a few friends have said they've heard it before not to long ago
-
Bird cannons do have a similar sound but this was way louder and we don't have any vineyards or orchards around here Unless someone fired one off for fun in the middle of town But in the middle of the day that's pretty unlikely I'm starting to think a sonic boom from a jet makes more sense than anything else With the odd times of happening in the middle of the night and in the middle of the day the next day And the fact I have seen them down here before on a few occasions the one time I had seen one flying very very low I was at the beach sandboarding ran to the top of the hill and happened to spot a little speck in the distance coming at me extremely fast and completely silent within probly a few split seconds it went directly over my head and BOOM Definately broke the sound barrier I absolutely shit my pants and literally jumped on the ground that's how low it was I thought I was going to get hit by it it looked like a fucken missile comin at me if i could pause the moment of it overhead i couldve thrown a rock at it it was seriously low then as it banked and curved around the bay you could actually see that circular shimmering coming from the wings Makes sense that maybe they have been doing some training or something still I'm pretty sure they're not allowed to break the sound barrier over land
-
The fire in Denmark is fairly close probly anywhere around 50-100ks away Fighter Jets was another thought I had we used to often get fighter jets flying over head along the coast I have seen and heard one break the sound barrier directly over my head at a very very low height when I was at the beach once Wich I'm pretty sure they aren't alowed to do I havent seen any for a few years but Could definately be a possibility
-
Nah I'm way way south no mines anywhere around here nothin but bush and farms for 100's of K's
-
yeh i thought about that sometimes we have farmers blowing stumps out of the ground but not usually in the middle of the night

hey all thought i'd just put up a thread about this what can i say im one of those weird people that like to watch shows about weird shit from aliens and ghosts to bigfoot and whatever other strange unexplained things are out there over the last year or 2 i have seen alot on some different doco's and on youtube vids about strange booms and other sounds being heard all over the world alot of the youtube alot of the youtube videos seem pretty fake anyway a couple of days ago it was about 11 PM and suddenly a very very large boom shook the house and everything it was pretty strange sounded like an explosion i didnt think to much of it then the next day around 1 PM again a large loud boom im in a small town no one i know seems to have any idea what it is though they did hear it to my mum also said she's heard it before this aswell as others i know i thought maybe some kind of work going on somewhere but at 11 o'clock at night seems a little odd as i say its a small town its not like the city where they have road workers and things like that working throughout the night i dunno just thought it was a little strange was wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences in oz

i have on one occasion left a jar (without opening it at all) wich was half colonised with mycelium and half with mold to see if it would still fruit as i know they will fruit invitro if left for to long the mycelium did take over the mold and it did fruit alot of fruits and big ones to all while still in the jar its quite a crazy sight to see them curling all around the edges of the jar trying to find a way out please note nothing was consumed it was purely experimental and was disposed of afterwards if you are worried about contaminated jars putting you at risk it is recommended to put them through your pressure cooker again to kill off any bad stuff you may breathe in then you can open them and dump them out with relatively no worries

hate to burst ya bubble but unfortunately i really cant see this working in the past i have used slices of peres only around half a cm to a cm which have rooted and thrown new shoots wich is good to know for creating more stock. but i have to say sorry the whole idea of grafting directly to a leaf sounds a like a guaranteed failure to me good luck though id love to see it actually work cacti can do some crazy things

myco replied to doxneed2c-me's topic in Cacti & Succulents
That's the strangest law I've ever heard why would something with a higher mesc content be legal and something with lesser be illegal Where the hell do u live -
Gotta agree there I've never seen any revert to normal growth at all and they grow really fast Someone from the states I think said there's a clone A and clone B pach crests being sold over there somewhere I have one that looks very different from the rest I'll put some pics up to show the difference It's almost looking like a TBM crest but the spines just aren't big enough in my opinion it definately looks different though
-
beautiful GOT you really seem to have your growing on point all your plants show amazing growth and always look very happy and healthy your a champ mate i'll wack up a couple pics of my freds they both look alot more like your grafted one there they dont look crested at all like that large one you have there however they arent very big and have been attacked by snails a bit in the past i'll get some pics up would love to do a trade sometime if they are different

I'm gonna sow a bunch more of these seeds to play around with i think i grafted a few more today see how we go this time gonna try and keep them in the humidity chamber as long as possible i'm thinking leave them in there until i start to see some decent growth on them is gonna be the key to success here wish me luck -

myco replied to myco's topic in Cacti & Succulents
Damn that sucks hostilis I Attempted 2 blossfeldia grafts they were both looking great after a week and a half then I thought id take them out of the humidity chamber and overnight they shriveled into nothing I think they definately need to be kept in a high humidity for alot longer than other grafts -
self fertile to so you should get some nice little seeds out of it
