Conv3rgence replied to mushroomman's topic in Cacti & Succulents
I admit, after I read the 2015 list, I had to change my pants. -
#5 Thanks mate, awesome. No problems receiving any dried herbs or seed here, just no live plants/cuttings. (Had no issues receiving many things from SABers.)

Using BAP on succulents and euphorbias
Conv3rgence replied to Conv3rgence's topic in Cacti & Succulents
Yeh I figured as much. I've just got 10 grams of BAP powder sitting in a cupboard, never used. I bought it back when I saw a lot of people using it but I couldn't bring myself to use it on my babies. I might try it on a few ugly rooted logs that have yet to pup. -
PMed. Whats the Brisgesi MM? Im not familiar with that abbreviation.

After a Loph graft in the Perth area.
Conv3rgence replied to LikeAshesWeFade's topic in Cacti & Succulents
There's a rooted Bridgesii on Facebook in the perth cactus and succulents group, as Echinopsis lagenformis. It's an urban tribes cutting originally, I believe. I bought from him b4, ex SABer. -
Wow Id like to see this garden, mine is so amateur by comparison, but Im only just gerting started. (only cuttings and pots) That staghorn is magnificent, those things sell for ridiculous prices at a fraction if that size on perth gumtree.

As a west australian im ineligible for this offer, but I'd like to say zed is a top bloke who has gifted lots of free stuff to new members like me so I'd reccomend you pick zed!

The language used presents a bias. The author repeatedly states that ayahuasca makes you vomit and hallucinate for 6 hours, with the full knowledge that this sounds shocking and upsetting to conservative folk. If you read the article closely it is clear that it is written with an opinion, even if this is not clearly stated, the intent is to grab attention with this opinion on a divisive issue. Its fairly common in pretty much all journalism though, mainstream and blog sourced news, all present opinions with their facts, through selective presentation, language, and repetition. This is perhaps a less obvious example, but I dont feel its a balanced article that looks at all sides of an issue. edit - just read your second post, lol.

How many people die from car crashes, airplane crashes, alcohol related violence, workplace accidents? These things are so familiar that no one wants to read about it. Its so much easier to sensationalize the unknown than the mundane. A headline about the dangers of driving a car would not attract as much attention. The exotic unknown Peruvian Shamans and their dangerous hallucinogens make a nicer target. If we associate something with our sense of 'self' we accept the dangers that come with it, but if something can be identified as 'other' such as peruvian shamans, muslims, refugees, "terrorists", then its easy to demonize. Its really all different forms of xenophobia.

If I'm after fresh seed, when would be the good time to purchase from USA (mesagarden) or EU (koehres). Or any other reccomended vendors? I'm after ornamental cacti and succulent seeds, mostly looking for Obregonia, Astrophytum, Ariocarpus, Mesembs, Haworthia and others. Thanks

If these agencies have access to this data without a warrant, then shouldnt we the public have access to the same data of the politicians, corporate CEOs and banksters?

My 9 year old son has been watching DMT vids
Conv3rgence replied to Sallubrious's topic in Chill Space
Sounds like hes a smart kid, you should be proud, not worried. You are taking a balanced approach, which I feel is best as you have an open communication. Look at it this way. Kids are going to be curious, they are going to explore and take risks. If you push the negatives and foster a judgemental attitude towards these things out of worry, then the kid may experiment anyways, but keep it secret. It's better to have that open communication that you seem to have, so you can always know what he's going through and he feels free to talk with you without fear of disappointment or judgement. Parental expectations inevitably create secrets, it's best to drop any expectations and allow them to feel secure. The suggestions of meditation and lucid dreaming are quite good ideas. Some kids and myself included, lack the patience and attention span to properly meditate, so there are useful aids to assist the undisciplined mind. There is safe technology like binaural beats with headphones to entrain brainwaves to alpha/theta states to assist meditation. I've used these to great success, I could even upload some flac files to Dropbox or something if you wanted. Using binaurals has helped me quiet the mind chatter and even taught me to attain meditative states without needing them. Lucid dreaming is not something you can really teach, but I've got my kids to look for their hands in their dreams as a technique to become aware of a dream and take control of it. This has had limited success in conquering nightmares, giving them a some confidence in the dream world. So far it's only worked for my 6 year old son, but he hasn't been able to control his dream, only to see his "wobbly hands" and become aware he is dreaming and therefore stop being scared. Good luck to you, sounds like you are doing a fine job. -
Hi, They sound great, but are you from WA? I have no experience growing caapi, so I will have to do some reading on the requirements for our Perth climate. Around what month do you find it efficient to start rooting caapi? November? Thanks for the reply, let me know your prices for the cuttings and if your in WA then I'll arrange a pickup closer to when they can be rooted. Cheers

Looking for B.Caapi vine or any other related varieties in WA. Preferably cuttings or seedlings I can grow from to start my own vine garden. Thanks.

I just ordered through the website and said I'm from WA? The herbalistics guy said there was a chance of inspection and that it would be my responsibility, which is true. herbalistics wont send cuttings or live plants to WA and i dont think they will send lophophora seeds either. But all legal seed which includes the trichos is fair game. Just be prepared for a surprise 56 dollar fee if your unlucky. Finny story though, I thought i fucked up and failed on the germination becaus it was my first time. I dumped all the soil mix into a smaller container so I could use the bigger container for a new batch. I forgot about the smaller container and then today, 1 month later, I saw a few seedlings popped up in it. But now they are all without labels and it could be any of 4 Trichos popping up. One of these might be Icaro.
-
Incorrect. Theres a chance the mail will be intercepted and you will get charged the inspection fee. But with the volume of mail coming to Perth, the chance is quite small. I have received seed from Herbalistics without issue, and im in WA. Up to you to take the risk, but this is our state and tasmanias strange system. The seeds are legal but it is a lucky dip to see if you get an inspection fee.
-
I believe Herbalistics is selling Icaro seeds.

I'm finding that the probe heating mat has quite n intense burst based heating, different from my other mat without a probe which is more steady/stable. This probe based mat gets intensely hot very fast then switches off to being almost cold before resuming the cycle. This is with the probe taped to the fibre cement. It seems to volatile for seedlings, maybe with the probe on top of sowing medium like you suggest will provide better results. I'll drill a container tomorrow and test.
-
For geminating cacti seed, I have been running a waterbed heater with great success that has a heat setting control, and no probe. Its way more effective than my seed mats, its much larger, and it was free. I recently picked up 2 more waterbed heaters but these both have probes. Can I duct tape the probe to the top of the mat? What do you guys do with the probe?

Oh thanks, Ill have to find some pictures of young specimens for reference. Bunnings WA seems to be pretty poor for columnar cacti, but I haven't really been looking that often. Its mostly lollipop moon cacti every time I check.
