  1. i usually use a cheap powder rooting hormone but only to help prevent any rot that may occur as i havnt noticed any difference with or without it. i plant calloused cuttings deep enough to support themselves into debco cacti and succulent mix and leave two weeks before watering, have always noticed a speed up of new growth within a fortnight of the first water, but usually within one week. have only ever had one get rotten/moldy and this already had a very well established root system (didnt look like any mold ive ever seen, looked like yellow mycelium coming the bottom of the pot, maybe it was) i think the reason for this may have been that the concrete it was sitting on was really flat and not all the water was draining as quickly as the others BTW i only plant in warm weather

    red bugs

hey everyone, i have a coleus plant that is very dear to me. she hasnt grown in a while and just recently ive noticed these tiny red bugs on the leaves, smaller than a dot from a pen if you let it drop. i cant post a picture as my only camera is my phone and 1 megapixel aint gonna show something this small. anyone have any ideas what they are? and do i need to be extremely worried? i aint got wheels atm and im out of neem, will she be ok for a week or two till i can get somewhere to buy some more? much appreciated guys, it would kill me to lose this specimen
  3. nah im not really worried, its just that they look brand spankin new so im starting to wonder whether this guy is as genuine as first impressions led me to believe
  4. dang, i bought a pair of the ones in watertrade's link just a week or so ago of some guy at work, i paid $60 bucks for them, thought i was getting a really good deal, seems i may have been swindled
  5. did it taste really really wrong? rather disgusting with a hint of pilliness (if you know what i mean) what i am thinking of is gross but not disgusting i realize this dosnt really make any sense but im sure anyone who had tasted this stuff would know exactly what i mean

    fans?

hey guys just wondering if you were growing tropicals inside in grow boxes under lights should you have two fans, one going in and one out or just one goin in?
  8. two worlds? may i ask why you say two? how can we really be sure there are two? i guess we cant. personally i feel there is one world, but we have been conditioned by culture, society and mainly ourselves to see what is largely thought to be 'reality' how can you be sure that red is red? i mean some people are what we call "color blind" but just because they are the minority how can you say for sure that they are not seeing things more clearly than the rest of us and we are not color blind??? some people take these chemicals for fun, some people embrace these spirits for guidance and insight and some people refuse to accept the notion that they can not see everything, that there is more to life than the 'this'. i once told someone that i believe everything i experience to be real, to be here whether i can currently "see" it or not, he responded with "but we see everything that light touches" of course the obvious response was "and if light does not touch it?" he went to counter this and fell short, deep in thought, and i have watched a new being born from him since then. at the end of the day i feel you will find EVERYTHING you are looking for, but be prepared as you may also learn much about yourself and this realm that are not looking for, or possibly didnt want to know. really the question is, how much do, no, CAN you believe? how open minded can you be without being caught up in false truths. if all you can see is the door, does this mean there is nothing behind it?
  9. yeah i think you may be right strangebrew, i just typed it into google originally. i just used the image bit for the first time, thats cool as. i think they were browningia hertlingiana
  10. cool, thank heaps darcy even though it looks fine i was starting to worry a little
  11. gday everyone, i bought two lophs from SAB on 25/04/05 one white flower and one pink. i was just wondering if anyone could tell me if they have different growth habits? one of them is almost five times the size it was when i received and the other has hardly grown at all. it looks healthy tho, nice color, firms up nicely when watered, no signs of rot or mold or anything. unfortunately i didnt label them (stupid me) so im not sure which is which, but the small one is a far darker shade of green. any feedback appreciated, i dont really want to rip it up to check the root as it seems happy, just not really growing. they are in the same soil mix too thanks guys
  12. i think even more appropiate than 'it can make you psycho' is 'it can bring out underlying mental disorders' personally i dont think weed can 'make' anything happen that wasnt going to happen anyway. pretty much the same story why alot of the population are scared of psychedelics, "im not taking that, it'll make me insane" and then from these undereducated fools that would believe the sky was falling if a chicken told them so you get rumours like "lsd leaves black spots in your brain, and decomposes your spinal chord" "mushrooms contain strichnine and make you trip by screwing with your stomach acid which in turn hampers your ability to digest food" and the good old "mescaline damages chromasomes" geez, this really shits me off. i didnt actually see the report but a guy at work was tellin me that some guy smoked some weed then thought there was a party on for him at rod laver arena, so he walked 7 hours through traffic and everything to get there and could hear footsteps next to him the whole way, if thats an accurate description of the report then im with amulte, sounds like daytura, or he may have had an underlying mental illness. a girl at my highschool smoked some weed and BANG, drug induced schitzophrenia, her parentslooked into it and whaddya know? there was a history of schitzophrenia in the family
  13. i had heard years ago they were totally pissed all the time. if not then they must have very low energy levels, coz we used to squirt em square in the nose with the hose and all they do is look at you. and no we wern't just being mean, they used to climb down the trees at night into the back yard and the rotties would rip em to bits koalas making mescaline, so thats where the aus army got the idea from, lol
  14. i do believe youre correct benz, a little google suggests that 'prickly pear' actually represent about a dozen types of opuntia, i think its one of em
  15. hey guys, i know some of you out there frequent gardenworld in springvale. they have these cacti labelled as browningia something (cant remember rest of name) and i swear they are peruvianus. i just did a google and looked at a few browningia pics and none of them look even remotely similar. tho ive never actually seen a cacti labelled as peruvianus in real life so i cant be 100% sure. does anyone know the ones i mean, and can they confirm either way? cheers
  16. very nice indeed, does the second pic from the top stay in that formation, its looks really cool with the cross like that
  17. i had a dream the other night that i cut the tops off three mature bridgesii monstrose pups (above the spines) approx. 4cm diam from the corner of rib to rib (if you look at it like a star, from point to point) and about 4cm in length. i peeled them and removed the core, took a bite of one geez it was bitter so i decided to blend them up with a little lime cordial. this subtracted from the bitterness slightly, i only managed to ingest maybe one to one and half of the pieces cut before starting to feel rather nauseous. i laid down and tried to gain control over my stomach. approx 30 minutes later the snot re-emerged into my toilet bowl, doh. of course nothing was expected but a while later i felt really energized and clear minded with lots of motivation. this was the extent of the effects, no visuals or anything close but i felt wonderful for the rest of the night. i really have no idea how i would ever go about keeping it down tho. maybe that rum trick is worth a shot, although i hate rum and turns my tummy too. this was as stated a dream and nothing more.
  18. i use debco cacti and succulent mix with good results. i think the top one is a cereus peruvianus and the bottom left a prickly pear (dont know botanical name) cant help with the bottom right. dont take this as gospel tho as im far from an expert. is the one on top getting a nice amount of sun? as you've recently repotted im guessing there wasnt any mold or rot, so maybe light or fert levels. ive never ferted my cacti as i was told they shouldn't need it for a year or so with the potting mix i use, i think ill start soon tho so if people could post some advice on ferts it would be much appreciated.
  19. i tried rooting a spach with a growing tip on its side once, it did grow roots but as the tip grew the bottom dried out, its still alive just dont look to good. that piece looks nicely calloused, i would just stick it in dry soil and wait a fortnight till watering. good luck

    Lago growlog

well i wish you all the very best of luck, been a few weeks now and i've had no no signs of life i sent my last few to someone else on here so maybe he'll have more luck but mine didnt look anywhere near as fresh as yours rev, maybe they were a bit old?
  21. nice graft just out of interest, if you root a graft does the potency ever return to normal levels, someone said earlier that the 1 year ref. was just an erowid myth, but what about the 4-5 years i have read elsewhere, any truth to this?
  22. dont see why you would, just be sure to plant it deep enough that it can support itself
  23. i use debco cacti and succulent mix, it is not moist but not bone dry out of the bag, i plant calloused cuttings into this with no extra water and wait a fortnight till watering, never had a prob. i tried the horizontal thing with a spach. once but it still had a growing tip and it seemed that for every cm the tip grew the bottom dried out a cm. not sure if this was species or just the fact that it had a growing tip. quite a lot of people like this method as its said to produce far more pups (makes sense) not to crash hot for aesthetics tho
  24. id say that yellow cutting is rotten the whole way through, i think if you cut it in half you'll find the tissue is rotten or starting to rot. as for the white stuff, like flip said it looks like hard water deposits, i've got that on a few terracotta pots, not on actual cacti though. kinda looks like you've been pouring water right over the top of it, or maybe your rain is just crappy
