bogfrog Posted September 16, 2013 I wasnt sure where to post this, but grafter-extrordinaires plz check out this crazy video (mute it, the song is horrible) This guy is taking the embryo out of a cactus seed and grafting it onto pere straight away. Athough not necessay, its amazing to watch him work so delicately, and kind of inspiring http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_GMgAz0WS7g&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D_GMgAz0WS7g

nitrogen Posted September 24, 2013 (edited) Yes indeed these are turning out super I am very glad to see - the state of affairs regarding mutant trichos will I imagine be quite bizarre by 2015 or so ;) Here's a few more - went over to a dear brother's house today and checked on the babies I left there awhile back - they're growing better than the one's where I live since they get lots of sun: TPM x (SS02 x pachanoi) TPC x (Juul's, SS02, & SS02 x pachanoi) TPM x SS02 v. "Aldous" - this one has really taken off since being grafted to the pachanoi - the motherplant shifts between normal growth, monstrose, large crests, and tight crests - this one here is all large crest.. naja naja Posted September 24, 2013 LOverly Nitro, u have convinced me, grafting to trich stock will happen within the next few weeks when these fucking storms stop battering the shit out of us and the weather gets better.
mutant Posted September 24, 2013 (edited) Ahhhh .... at last .... a mutant update: yep this is a graft, actually this graft has been shown lots of time here. It is grafted in a now hidden selinicereus stock (10 -12 cm ?) and was grafted there as a seedling from seed. for the lengths of the seninicereus stock there are only pebbles in there, so this needs a deep pot. Can you tell which are the ones that take their time until they pup, the mid puppy ones and the true caespitosas ? (all on tpachanoi KK339, a couple on PC pachanoi) some var of Sulco rauschii - perhaps one of the prettiest , on bridgesii Another Rebutia missing the name now, its the one with the awesome red flowers. (on a 5 cm selinicereus stock and in a pretty small pot, just in case you are not convinced about selini yet) Echinopsis arachnoides on bridgesii Turbinicarpus, still havent found the name, on selini, Can you find which are the (lopho) grafts ? [/url] Another Sulcorebutia on KK339 Edited September 24, 2013 by mutant
nitrogen Posted September 24, 2013 (edited) LOverly Nitro, u have convinced me, grafting to trich stock will happen within the next few weeks when these fucking storms stop battering the shit out of us and the weather gets better. Thx! Yea it seems like the tricho grafts are the next level from pereskiopsis - I don't get anything like the growth I get on pachanoi from pereskiopsis - but then I don't have a bunch of pachanoi or other tricho stock to graft too - so I'll probably degraft my pereskiopsis and just get them going on their own roots.. I've got my pereskiopsis grafts all groing tight together too which leads to scarring/spine damage - don't have the space to do it another way though.. Mutant - nice work! Love that Sulco rauschii! mushroomman Posted October 5, 2013 Variegated validus x bridgesii, out of 50seedlings all but 2 were highly variegated only 4 others have survived on there own roots. TPM x N1 that I rooted a section so these pups would grow Validus x rosei1
Jox Posted October 5, 2013 ^^Nice mate , has that TPM X N1 crest been de-grafted or has it be grown on its own roots from seed? All your plants look good!! Cheers Jox

IndianDreaming Posted October 14, 2013 This is a Loph on an SS02 x Bridge - the first shot is my phone, taking a photo of the macro shots below There's a slight gap under the edge of the scion, but it looks like it has healed on ok - time will tell I guess.
hostilis Posted October 14, 2013 (edited) My new L. jourdaniana to myrtillocactus geometrizans grafts. Looks like they have some new growth, I think they took. In time I'll really know though. This is of a white variegated caespitosa williamsii pup to a pere. EDIT: Sorry for the blurry/sideways pictures. I'm only using my dinosaur of a phone to take them. Hehe. Stillman Posted October 18, 2013 Hey Jox some updates of a couple of the Astrophytum myriostigma seed you gave me. They are still really small it appears most astros don't like peres as a stocjk that much. Check out the bars of colour they are getting, would be cool if it stayed in them as they matured. I have one 4 rib only 4 ribs so far not sure if it will develop another.
GoOnThen Posted October 18, 2013 Nice mate you have got plenty of bang for your buck there. One seed producing seven plants ( of sets ) within I presume 12 months is not bad. I love watching grafted Asto's grow as the go through so many changes. When my nudums were all fury I was thinking there was something wrong but as they grew they slowly lost their fluff. Mine started off with a rush but then slowed some what. I presumed I just wasn't giving them enough loven. Cheers Got
Jox Posted October 18, 2013 (edited) Awesome mate! Cheers for the update, I have never grafted Astro's so I am glad I have a mate that can show me there progress, from most of your photos of Astro grafts they seem to pup to the extreme! I was also wondering how big do they grow before that start throwing pups? I have been growing a few of mine on there own roots under a 600watt MH light & am very impressed with there growth, some are nearly the size of a 10 cent piece. I must admit they look like plain Astro's & are not as freaky as your grafts, yours look very cool with the line of fluff forming like that .
