What is your fastest growing Trichocereus?

Recommended Posts

I don't have a lot of experience with different kinds of Trichocereus species or crosses. I only have a few adult T. pachanois, a T. cuzcoensis and a T. taquimbalensis.

Anyway, i have noticed that my T. cuzcoensis is the fastest of all of my adult Trichos.

Here it is a a year back or so

P1010674.jpg

I have cut have taken a few arms off of it, and it pups in no time. Even the pups grow very fast; like there is a noticeable growth every week (i hope im not seeing things)

I know there are variations from one individual to another but i started this thread so if a lot of people post their fastest growing Trichocereus in their collection, maybe we can gather up some data about which species or crosses have the fastest individuals amongst their genus.

I have two clones that I call fast, both are supposed to be hybrids between peruvianoid and pachanoid type plants.

The fastest growing plants other than hybrids in my collection are all peruvianioid/macrogonus types.

One of Mel's seedlings from the nook. SS02xPC it's three times larger than it's brother's, it's 4" atm. I think it's a freak.

I'll bacc that PD. Easily the fastest in my collection also. The huge scop I got from up north also seems very quick too, but it's a bit early to tell at this point. It's could just be because of it's larger biomass that gives the impression of quick/big qrowth. If psycho0 were the size of this scop, I'm sure it'd kick it's ass.

A pach x psycho0 which was a present from PD has been the outstanding one for me, just zoom, zoom, zoom!! and looks cool too

My collection ain't too established yet but my fastest grower is a bridgesii. I bought a group of bridge seedlings and this guy has grown twice the size of his siblings

It's got basal pups on 4 out of five ribs.

Wow that bridge is amping it! It looks like it has good genes.

My fastest growing is this pachanoi clone. It kept up with other pachanoi clones that had extensive root systems, and then beat them. :D

But I know it's not growing its fastest at the moment. It hadn't any ferts for a while now, and I know I can get it grow faster and healthier. :P

Yowie. The plant is mental. It seems to throw all energy into growth, and none into protecting itself from infections, hence it is fast growing but susceptible to more ailments than any other trich I own!

Hahahaha! The one I got from you fell over while I was away. It had a meaty gash near the tip, I sulfur it and repot it. 2 weeks later it's fully healed, and thrown out way more growth and pushed the gash 3-4 areoles down already. No doubt it's faster than those pachas I posted above. But just haven't seen it growing for too long. :P

For me its my Tescheckii X Psycho0, but its in a huge pot (most of my others are in much smaller ones). SS02 X Juuls Giant is also really fast. The terscheckii X was about 15-20cm tall 6 months or so ago when i got it and its now 35-40cm. It also seems to show some visible growth every week, even though Iv cut the water for winter. Ill post a picture a bit later (it seems to resemble Psycho0 most). Both plants were from Herbalistics.

Also Scop/pach/hybrid from bunnings also take off up here, but not even close to the terscheckii X

Awesome thread..

OK, clones I have found to be particularly fast growing [also considering girth and fatness] up to now....

*pachanoi KK339, also pups a lot

*TIG, an OZie bridge which might be psych0

*SAB Lance, a pach or pachXscop , probably same or similar with super pedro, T.cordobensis and SAB "rob"

*STEVE, a SAB sourced cuzcoid peruv

of course there are others which are not properly establish or too small to tell [and, ...ehmmm, I have been hacking my trichocerei since day one I got to play with them]

thanks a lot for all the input :)

the pictures are amazing , that's great progress

However i never thought i would read this in this thread or any related topic ;)

Tescheckii X Psycho0

So until now i guess, pachanoi, bridgesii and peruvianus are the most mentioned here.

OK - heres the SS02X juuls giant - it was 20cm when i got it from herbalistics.

gallery_6534_363_28056.jpg

This is to give you an idea how big the terscheckiiXpsycho0 was when i got it:

gallery_6534_363_16203.jpg

It was probably about the size of the one on the left hand side behind the one at the front when i got it (image used without permission from Herbalistics)

And now (i think i got it about Oct-Nov last year) it looks like this:

gallery_6534_363_116349.jpg

The SS02X is my biggest, but i got it at the same time as the TerscheckiiX (which is now only about 10cm shorter). As you can see though it seems to display mostly Psycho0 characteristics, itll be interesting to see where it pups from (base like most bridgesii etc or higher up like on most terscheckii), it will also be interesting to see what it looks like when its more mature

wow

please post updates as this plant grows!!!

doesn't show terschecki in spines, but it does look fatty!

Will do - it is a bit unusual =] its probably my favourite, hence it being in such a huge pot, while all my others are in pots with other cacti or smallish pots by themselves

And yea - it pretty much doesnt resemble terscheckii at all, and its my fattest as well (scop is close), except the gnosis and MG red spine peruvian from Herbalistics, which obviously came off massive old plants

i sowed some Psycho0 crossrs about a month ago, should be interesting to see how they will turn out growing speed wise

These T. bridgesii seedlings are about 6 months old, most of them are 3-4 cm. These are the fastest seedlings i have, even faster an older pot from the same batch,

P1030901.jpg

I don't know if they are extra fast or am i getting better at growing seedlings

These are my fastest growing trichs, pretty much my only but they certainly are quick. The first photo is Mid december 2010 and although the 2nd photo is a terrible angle to measure their size against you can clearly see they've put on considerable growth. The 2nd photo was taken on the 13th March 2011.

The first photo was taken the day those cuttings were planted however I'm unsure what specific clone they came from.

Anyone know if the spiny one is a trich?
