RonnySimulacrum Posted April 11, 2003 My normal picking spots are all wet on the top but if you scratch off the top of bark and mulch it is all bone dry, I think we may have to wait even in the hills.

psycho0 Posted April 12, 2003 i went hunting this morning up near sherbrooke, where i once found 20 then the very next day found 90!, but only found one decent sized measley mushroom  ithink we need a few days of rain. didn't even find any fly agrics i found some boletus tho but wasnt sure if they were the active kind. if anyone know any really plentiful spots would they please email, pm me, my gnome is getting anxious:) thanx
gerbil Posted April 14, 2003 had a long search this morning, a few non active, but nothing other than that.
ferret Posted April 15, 2003 ive found a couple of crazy caespitose clusters in woodchip beds over the last few days, totalling about 200 in three clumps! nice big caps too -6.5cms.
spiders Posted April 16, 2003 nice use of technical words there Fez! You going to infected mushroom btw? Boletes are not active although they stain blue. We managed to find about 30=40 subs last night and my Eucalypta are the first to begin pinning. Definately different to the average Victoria Sub! We have a secret patch btw that we have been maintaining for about four years and introducing invigorated isolates (although im not sure this has been necessary) where we counted 3400 mushrooms in a 12 metre square area (four by four) and we stopped counting rather than ran out of mushrooms. And there is no way I could be payed to tell you where it is
squiresk Posted April 17, 2003 Sorry bluemeanie, Someone else woulda done it if it wasn't me "in a 12 metre square area (four by four)" k. fortunatly for us you are more mycological then just numeralogical. 'scuse any spelling or errors I've made, all purely intentional.
Shorza Posted April 17, 2003 squiresk:"in a 12 metre square area (four by four)" Haha, i didnt even pick that up... :D :D :D

RonnySimulacrum Posted April 23, 2003 Infected mushroom rocked my world. Think I will go for a look today; see what is around the hill. Wish me luck.
save_the_whales Posted May 4, 2003 hello all, especially bluemeanie and ferret: can you please help me with my age-old question? does subaeruginosa go blue? if it does indeed as i am want to believe, then what vic mush doesn't? thanks, peace
spiders Posted May 5, 2003 Subaeruginosa always goes blue and im not sure where you heard otherwise. Infact the Victoria and South Australian regional variants stain blue to black! The only one that might not is Tasmaniana which is found in manure. You will find that there are few mushrooms that actually stain blue - most dont. There are a few boletes, psilocybes, one species of panaeolus and a few other rarities that stain blue in australia
mescalito Posted May 5, 2003 If I've SEEN the right ones(see pic in earlier ID thread) they are blue/green towards the base of the stem even B4 they are disturbed(although I've read that they don't always stain blue 'til the second flush  )
ferret Posted May 5, 2003 yeh it will either already have tints of blue/green before you pick or will develop noticable bruising on cap/stem/gills within 10-20 mins.. and first flush will bruise too. Gymnopilus purpuratus and Gym. spectabilis (or isit pampeanus)are supposedly active (if you can get enough of the bitter crap into yer gut) but dont stain blue. though ive never eaten and maybe never will...
