ace1928 Posted January 21, 2016 (edited) http://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.3847/0004-6256/151/2/22Pretty cool little article that talks about some interesting orbital anomalies that have been observed in kuiper belt objects over the years and the way they point towards the possibility of the existence of a planet between the size of earth and neptune. The supposed planet has some interesting orbital properties and the simulation that produced the suspected orbit of the planet was also able to predict some strange orbits of distant kuiper belt objects such as Sedna. It will be cool to see if it is discovered/observed at some point in the near future.Enjoy Edited January 21, 2016 by ace1928

DELETED ACCOUNT Posted January 21, 2016 http://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.3847/0004-6256/151/2/22 ...they point towards the possibility of the existence of a planet between the size of earth and neptune.... Pretty cool. Any planet out there ought to be really cool. Freezing, even.
Sallubrious Posted January 21, 2016 That gives me a lot of faith in the early warning systems looking out for meteorites and asteroids that could hit the earth. If they can just not notice something that big with all the high tech arrays scanning the fuck out of everything what else haven't they noticed. I say send Bruce Willis up there in a spaceship to blow it up.
ThunderIdeal Posted January 21, 2016 A planet of any size in such a distant orbit is effectively invisible (almost). I remember some telescope with a very narrow field saw a potential far outer planet which is widely criticised of being a glitch. This all loosely comes under the banner of gravity faith like all mainstream astro endeavours. "We can calculate gravity" therefore "we have accounted for all massive objects in the solar system". At least that used to be the mantra. Any such planets could be interesting for two reasons. Comparing their geology, and giggling at the explanations for their existance in the framework of the nebular hypothesis for solar system formation.
