goneski Posted February 13, 2015 (edited) Just a random thread to see if there are any fellow vapers out there? What are you using? What juices are you vaping? My story (summary): * Started out with Vision Spinners and crappy plastic cartomisers * Moved to Vision Spinner 2s * Got sick of minimal vapor and leaking cartomisers and plastic tanks cracking * Went and got an Aspire Subohm battery as I didn't want to bother with 18650s + extra charger, and the mods I kept coming across seemed fairly average as far as build quality etc.. Coupled this with an Aspire Atlantis with the 0.5 ohm coils.. Reasonably happy with this setup. Up until this point, I had been focusing on tube mods as I wasn't too keen on box mods. I can't even remember the justification for this. Maybe it was a psychological thing and I wanted to stick with something resembling a cigarette? * I started looking at box mods and newer devices a couple of weeks ago * Just purchased a VaporShark rDNA40. Love this thing. 2500 mAh battery, micro usb charging (no external charger required), comes with integrated wireless charging, 1 - 40 W, and the reviews seemed to rave about the build quality which I agree is awesome. I love vaping and holding this thing -- the quality is awesome. Oh, and the new DNA 40 chip allows you to run Nickel builds with temperature sensing/control -- it will throttle the wattage back to maintain the coil at a certain temperature, so dry wicks won't burn so long as your temperature is set to a reasonable level and you won't get the dreaded dry/burnt hits. I'm very curious to try this out. So, I've started coupling the rDNA 40 with a Kangar Subtank MIni and my previously purchased Aspire Atlantis. I got the Subtank because it takes both prebuilt coils plus an RBA section for your own coils. I haven't delved into this yet. Anyone here building their own coils? Any good tutorials (youtube, etc) giving a rundown on the basics and how wire gauge, number of coils, etc impact resistance, performance, flavour etc?.. pbusardo on youtube amongst some others seem to have some great videos and reviews, but they tend to focus on people who already have had some experience with rebuilding. I'm keen to get into rebuilding now I have a mod, just not sure where to start really. I suppose I'll pick up some 28 & 30 gauge kanthal and nickel, plus organic cotton and start playing around. Is it easy, or is there a reasonable potential of fucking up and your battery exploding? The DNA 40 seems to have some good safety features and is regulated, but I just want to be sure first.. Even some good tutorials or pages on basic electronics surrounding resistance, battery output, etc would be appreciated. I have delved into electronics & safety stuff a little bit before, but I'm extremely rusty and can't remember a whole lot. It would be nice to relearn this for my own peace of mind and within the context of vaping specifically. Should I buy a resistance checker to test out new builds, or am I safe to just plug into my existing device and look at the resistance before firing? What are your favourite juices? So far I've just been vaping juices from Mt Baker Vapor. There are a heap of other vendors out there -- but they also tend to be quite expensive. Are their juices better, or is it all just marketing? Do you import your own pure nicotine and mix your own juices? What are some reliable overseas vendors for nicotine that you recommend? Do you drip and/or use a mechanical mod? Or do you prefer the easier and more portable option of tanks like myself? What PG/VG ratio do you vape? Personally, up until now I've just been vaping 50/50 and am reasonably happy but it would be nice to experiment with different ratios at some point. I know I'm bombarding you with a heap of questions here, but just add anything you think of, such as what you vape, your experiences etc.. It would be nice to get some other people's thoughts and ideas. Cheers Edited February 13, 2015 by goneski
ThunderIdeal Posted February 14, 2015 Id pay anything for a good reliable setup, if I knew what setup was good and reliable.
Change Posted February 14, 2015 I dont mind the Kanger Protank 3 with the 0.8omh wicks They are cheap and reliable, nothing fancy but it does the job
theuserformallyknownasd00d Posted February 14, 2015 Lately I've been using this with this http://www.fasttech.com/product/1531102 https://m.fasttech.com/products/3032/10011796/2023501-tesla-firephoenix-i-style-vv-variable-voltage-mod And then putting kanga Evod coils in, soooooo muuuuch vaaaaape and has never flooded! Coil milage is approx 30ml before I need to change.. My other fav combo is my V5 with a DCT 3.5ml tank and f16 carts. Good flavour but a bit noisy for my liking ie stealth vaping at work ;) My next purchase will be a box mod. Probably a 40-50w one cos the sub tanks sound rad! Thunder, if you purchase the ones on the link and then genuine evod coils you'll be laughing. My cheapest setup yet and my most pleasant! When I have fully charged both my units with samsung 18650s I get 5-6 days run and I vape approx 5ml per day. To me that's awesome, and cheap! For nic I had a great experience with myfreedomsmokes. Delivered in 4days, 125ml / 100mg delivered for $60. To my mixing of 12mg that's over 1ltr once mixed and flavoured. I think in sorted for at least 6mths now. Kanger pt3 are good if your a light vaper but I got sick of filling it 2-3 times day!
ThunderIdeal Posted February 14, 2015 what do you mean by flooded? is that when liquid gets in your mouth? i don't get why that happens but it's the fucking worst.
theuserformallyknownasd00d Posted February 14, 2015 Yeh that's flooded, at best it just gurgles and ruins the vape, at worst you drink it. But I get nada, never from either of my setups and they are defiantly entry level and cheap. I spent more on shitty ego setups haha
ThunderIdeal Posted February 14, 2015 (edited) i don't get it sorry. the link says its a clearomiser but i can't see where the liquid goes? this thread is starting to get me all excited. edit: ahh nevermind. i think i can see it, a clear thing obscured behind the black cylinder. goneski Posted February 14, 2015 My main criticism with the rDNA 40 so far is that the battery meter is flaky. It quickly drops from full, to half, to empty.. Sometimes back to half or full before I get low battery warnings and need to recharge. I'm not too fussed though, as I'm still getting 1.5 - 2 days of use out of it (around 10-15 mL ejuice) and I have the Aspire Subohm battery as a spare. The Kanger Subtank works well, but the drip tip does heat up too quickly to the point where I can't take long drags.. That's easy to fix by swapping out the drip tip, though. incognito Posted February 15, 2015 Has anyone found vapes not-so-good for their health? I found using a cape left me REALLY short of breath, more so than cigs. I had to give me both up I think I'm quite emphysemic after smashing cigs and bongs for so long coming up to a month nicotine free (touch wood) To completely hijack this thread I have this pain where my lungs are, I'm wondering if it's just a withdrawal symptom and if not what should I say to my doc if I'm concerned about the big C or do I go "hey doc I'm worried about lung cancer I've stopped smoking for three weeks and I have this pain in my lungs" what tests can they run? goneski Posted February 15, 2015 (edited) Damn, that sucks.. Not sure what to suggest except of the obvious of asking your doctor. I've only been vaping for around a year. Prior to that, I was smoking between half to a full pack a day from ages 18 - 26. When smoking, I ended up getting asthmatic symptoms and was on a puffer at one stage. Sometimes I would wake up in the middle of the night gasping or breath. Luckily I don't experience that since changing to vaping. The main thing I notice from vaping is I still do get a little bit of phlegm, mostly from heavy vaping, as well as slightly runny sinuses and a bit of sneezing. There might be an ever so slight shortness of breath, but if there is, it's barely noticeable. What exactly were you vaping? Equipment, voltage/wattage/resistance, juices, VG/PG ratio, nicotine strength? I just bought new equipement (as already mentioned), and quite a few juices -- but I'm hoping to show some discipline and drop back to social vaping -- mostly when alcohol is involved, as that's when the nicotine cravings truly kick in. I really shouldn't be buying any more, but I'm wondering if I should get some VG and PG to dilute my juices a bit (they're all 12-18mg) so I can gradually cut back until I reach 0mg. The last week or so having no nicotine while I was waiting for my juices to arrive was a bit rough as far as withdrawal. I've mostly been vaping 12-18mg.. I did try 24mg at one point, but it was a bit too much. All of my juices have been 50/50 VG/PG. I definitely do notice the difference on my body from different juices. I have one at the moment (Jizmoglobin) that doesn't seem to produce much vapour no matter what wattage I'm vaping at on a 0.5 ohm coil, but it does seem more harsh than others and I can't really vape it very regularly. gtarman Posted February 15, 2015 They'd probably get you to get a scan done incog, like an ultrasound or a catscan or an xray or something - they're pretty easy/non-invasive. And depending on the sort of scan it may well be bulk-billed if you get the referral from your GP. But yeah, talk to your doc is the best advice and just tell them what's going on. As far as vapes are concerned...I've looked into them a bit but all this jargon and techno-talk is pretty much the reason I haven't looked much further into them. Seems kind of inaccessible and unfriendly to the average stoner-consumer - don't really have the time or the interest to research and learn the ins and outs of the tech, which unfortunately seems kinda necessary if you wanna end up with something that doesn't suck. Plus I've spoken to so many people who just aren't happy with vapes, even when they've shelled out big bucks for them. They say it's not the same, more trouble than it's worth etc. I'd like to be able to try a really good one to see but meh...the time and effort and I'm not really that much of a smoker anyway. goneski Posted February 15, 2015 I forgot to mention that when I had shortness of breath, I ended up going to an after hours medical clinic. They ended up doing a chest xray.. Results were my lungs were fairly screwed from smoking. It was the doctor there who gave me a ventolin puffer.
