GorrilaGardener
I water my Courtii with water out of one of our IBC's used as an outdoor fish tank, My house mate tells me its high in nitrogen. I was under the impression that nitrogen is good for growth? either way the point i am getting to is that my babies seem to love it? I am also using Osmocote Native soil mix. ill post some pics shortly. Quick question for the folks here that are experienced with Acacia cultivation. At what stage of growth would you say is optimal to transplant from pot to the earth? I would imagine there is a point where it has been in too long and may suffer as a result? cheers Edited May 9, 2016 by Schoey88
2XB
Quick question for the folks here that are experienced with Acacia cultivation. At what stage of growth would you say is optimal to transplant from pot to the earth? I would imagine there is a point where it has been in too long and may suffer as a result? The ones I grow seem to handle being pretty root bound, I leave them in forestry tubes until they are like 500mm sometimes, roots are usually pretty dense when I transplant- just remember to keep water up to them if in small pots. And make sure no roots grow through the pot into the ground cause if you sever the tap root at all it will most likely die..... Transplant when the plant is somewhat dormant, i.e. autumn/winter for the trees I grow. I have been transplanting tubes into like 5litre pots before going into the ground. I'm not super experienced with acacia cultivation but have found this works for me anyways :-)
GorrilaGardener
Cheers Benno! Some very good points made. I currently have mine in 20L pots and the tallest is about 5 foot from top of pot to top of main stem... Have I left it too long?

GorrilaGardener
From memory around January/february. Got them as seedlings about a foot tall from communicacian
2XB
looking real good man! if you got somewhere to plant out i'd do it, they will start getting hard to manage before long
Flux
Nice one Schoey88, Looks like you got yours around the same time as me, though the trunks looks a little thicker (not so much 'droop'). Mine suffered a bit of heat damage late Jan early Feb when I went away and my 'designated waterer' was not as vigilant as I would have like (I kept the phyloddes that dropped) but they bounced back ...the phosphorous thing will hopefully be remedied soon.
theuserformallyknownasd00d
I'd say the deficiencies could be pot sized based too? Maybe give her a GOOD upgrade?
communacacian
Amazing work Ferret! I am very curious as to any updates on your experiments? I am keen to start exploring propagation from cuttings and wondering how those initial successes are coming along, are they thriving, have you noticed any difference in growth rate since you repotted them from tubes as compared with seed grown trees? folias
As they grow older, I'd say they will need support in the form of a stake of fencepost or something. I have seen them around 2-3 years old, where they get bent over and then trunk breaks, especially in a storm. This may be an issue even up to a few years of age. You can even see this bending over even in the young uns!

I dunno, what's 2 year seedling look like?
communacacian
this is really important work! its quite hard to compare growth rates I suppose, unless you grow seed and cutting side by side and in same conditions, soil, pot size, light etc. will update how my own explorations are going when I can

Thank you for your fantastic work! AWESOME!
