Evil Genius
Hi Guys,so my Voacanga Africana started flowering few weeks ago. This is the first time it flowered and i am a bit worried because some of the Branches turned black when it started flowering. I repotted and am giving Nutrients now but i am still worried because i love this Plant. It´s family. ;) So yeah, not sure what i want to say. Just felt like sharing the Pics and hope it´s not trying to procreate before it goes to Walhalla! Halcyon Daze
Looks like something in the Lamiaceae family
Evil Genius
Hello Halcyon, it was sold to me 10 years ago as a Voacanga Africana. Not sure about the ID but the Plant itself looks very much like Voacanga, though i agree the flower looks different than what i know from Torsten Pics on Erow ID. Mmmhh. Possible this is really something else. Edited July 2, 2014 by Evil Genius

Evil Genius
Good Lesson to always question and verify the ID of a bought plant, especially when it´s a potentially deadly plant. Edited July 2, 2014 by Evil Genius

Scientician
Here's a couple of pics of my voacangas in flower for comparison. EG your plants do not look like voacanga to me unfortunately.
Evil Genius
Hi Guys, thank you very much for clearing this up. Was greatly surprised that it isn´t a Voacanga because i trusted the ID. Pretty sure the seller grew it from fake Seed and didn´t know either. This german seller was actively selling the plant as voacanga for at least 10 years so please be careful when getting Voacanga from someone in Europe. Scary how fast you could end up dead when dealing with plants.Plant is still family though! We´ve been through a lot and no one will be left behind!

tarenna
Agree with all the above posts about it not being Voacanga or a member of the Family Apocynaceae. Family Lamiaceae most likely - possibly Family Scrophulariaceae... Any photos of leaves and habit?

kapitän kamasutra
Are the new green shoots cross sections quadrangular, and have the leaves aromatic smell?Could you post macro shots of a dissected flower cut in half lenghtwise with the stamens and stigmas exposed/countable?Its an interesting plant you have, I'd love to know what it is.Maybe really Scrophulariaceae, some angles the flower really looks like it.
