irabionist Posted August 10, 2015 (edited) Haha, the trick is to drive past someone's house, notice a greenhouse in the back with some cacti in front, decided to check it out, be lucky enough to find out they're super nice and have some tasty specimens and then have a lot of money on you at the time that you decide is better spent on cacti then rent #nowbroke I also got a cauliflower X godzilla, but it's at a friends place atm Edited August 10, 2015 by Sabry

Anodyne Posted August 21, 2015 OK fuck it, I give up. I quit gardening, I'm just going to go back to collecting stamps or the like. Some of these photos put my entire garden to shame. And those cauli-godzilla ones can't even be real, what is that green glow coming out from between their leaves, it looks like ye-photoshoppe radioactive glow?! Seriously beautiful plants everyone, I could stare at some of those all day - absolutely amazing!
Myeloblast Posted August 21, 2015 (edited) thanks guys. i really love that frum x cauliflower you have sabry. i have a couple plants of that cross but they don't have nearly as nice texture at that size. Let me know if you produce seed from it and want to trade and anodyne - no photoshopping was performed except for some cropping lighting makes all the difference when making nice pics of plants...i tried to follow in hellonasty's footsteps Edited August 21, 2015 by Myeloblast
Philocacti Posted August 22, 2015 Just bought these guys yesterday, but with no IDs. So I'll guess what they are These 2 fit the description of Ariocarpus retusus var. pectinatus http://www.cactus-art.biz/schede/ARIOCARPUS/Ariocarpus_retusus/Ariocarpus_retusus_pectinatus/Ariocarpus_retusus_pectinatus.htm Ariocarpus lloydii http://www.cactus-art.biz/schede/ARIOCARPUS/Ariocarpus_lloydii/Ariocarpus_lloydii/Ariocarpus_fissuratus_lloydii.htm Ariocarpus retusus var. furfuraceus http://www.cactus-art.biz/schede/ARIOCARPUS/Ariocarpus_retusus/Ariocarpus_retusus_furfuraceus/Ariocarpus_retusus_furfuraceus.htm Any feedback would be appreciated
nut Posted August 22, 2015 Faaark Myleo, those are some serious melting pots of genetics you got there. Love the retus/pec cross.good job!!!
Myeloblast Posted August 23, 2015 thanks nut! philo, imo the first one looks very much like a confusus. Second one looks in between a confusus and your typical retusus ssp. retusus. Pectinatus plants have to have the tiny spines coming from the areole or along a line down the center of the tubercle. From cactus-art.biz: In botany, the term pectinate refers to an arrangement of parts resembling the teeth of a comb. Third plant is also a retusus and what I would call a furfuraceus because its tubercles are about as long as they are wide. The tubercles also curve upwards some and the areole on the end of the tubercle is a trait of retusus more so than fissuratus. Last plant is a retusus, in between a furf and a typical retusus. These are all my opinion though, definitely not a taxonomist or botanist

Spanishfly Posted October 19, 2015 (edited) My Ariocarpus were putting on a good floral show last week. A double headed A. bravoanus and one of its offspring - about to flower for the first time - now officially an adult. Spanishfly Posted October 19, 2015 (edited) A A. scaphirostris - in the pink, and a white flowered A. retusus scaphirostroides A. scaphirostris is found only in one valley in the state of Nuevo Leon, and is possibly the most difficult species in the genus.
