magical9 Posted April 8, 2014 I scored what i think is a jackpot. I just got me a huge T. Scopulicola plant that I am going to be using as my backyard show piece and future mother used for cuttings. I got this thing for a steal too. also pictured is a 12ft long arm of a bridgesii plant i took center cuts from. 8 total. Very nice plant. also pictured is a catapillar that eat into my small bridgesii and hollowed out part of it! also pictured is a top cut of a Peruvianus. freakin huge.

magical9 Posted April 8, 2014 (edited) heh its most certainly a scop. pics dont do it justice. this plant was made from cuttings from a gigantic mother plant thats been growing for like 10+ years at the guys mom's place that i bought it from. hostilis Posted April 8, 2014 (edited) Yeah. It has spines on it and doesn't really have the typical scop shape. Almost like T. cordobensis. I've heard cordobensis is basically a spined scop though. Edited April 8, 2014 by hostilis
Alice Posted April 8, 2014 Nice cacti. I've never grown a scop that had spines... What makes you sure that it's pure scop?
Evil Genius Posted April 8, 2014 (edited) It's a scop! And a great One! Some scops have spines! Edited April 8, 2014 by Evil Genius

Evil Genius Posted April 8, 2014 Yeah, thats most likely FR991! Saw the peru too now! Great plant! You have to cross with it!
Evil Genius Posted April 8, 2014 But i guess its really a very very fat bridgesii!
hostilis Posted April 8, 2014 Thats a fatty. Is that from the same plant?
Evil Genius Posted April 8, 2014 It might very well be!Fat bridgesiis look very peruvianoid!
hostilis Posted April 8, 2014 Oh, it's an MSSmith photo. Looks like the same clone possibly. I wish there were more spineless scops floating around in the US. Can't find one anywhere it seems.
magical9 Posted April 8, 2014 (edited) Ya that photo is not of my plant but of an MS Smith plant/photo. Very simliar looking to mine though. Im confused as to what you think a scop *should* look like though. Everything ive seen looks just like what I have. Kinda square, filled in look with small spines. do you have pics you can link me to showing a spineless scop? now i gota get one..or 10.. nevermind i see them now. very nice looking those spineless scops. hostilis Posted April 8, 2014 Well this is normally what I think of when I think scopulicola, but that's just the image in my head. And the one that I want to find. Here's some pictures:
zelly Posted April 8, 2014 And the one that I want to find. When you find one, let me know & I'll swap you this branch pup.......I would also love a second spineless scop, explicitly for cross breeding... My mama plant is 5' tall with a branch @ 3' and this pup (above) @12"
hostilis Posted April 8, 2014 Yeah. That is the kind of scop I want. If you don't mind me asking, where did you find that one?
M S Smith Posted April 9, 2014 (edited) Yeah, there are two different sorts of T. scopulicola, the nearly spineless one (mine seed grown from Sacred Succulents' seeds) and the one with spines pretty much like the PC plant (aka Lance and T. cordobensis). I'm really not sure which of the two fits the type locality or is the original FR991, but my longer spined one from NMCR had FR991 attached to it. ~Michael~ Edited April 9, 2014 by M S Smith
Jox Posted April 9, 2014 ^^ So the Bunnings scop that everyone thinks is a cross could just be the spiny form?????? Cheers Jox
EthnoGuy85 Posted April 9, 2014 Scopulicola from SS. Cutting not seed grown
hostilis Posted April 9, 2014 (edited) Oooooh. I'm gonna hit up sacred succulents and see if they have a spineless scop. They NEVER answer my emails though for some reason. Does anyone know if there's a better way to contact them? Edited April 9, 2014 by hostilis
Evil Genius Posted April 9, 2014 I had sourced about 2-3 different spineless Scops from Ebay over the years, but have given them away when I was sick. I guess the seller told they were from Knize and wasn't aware they were Scops. Neither was Knize. So just keep on looking...the FR991 ist the most common One but since there are seed sources for Scops, you might be able to find other´s too.
zelly Posted April 9, 2014 (edited) so basically, a spineless scop crossed with pach or pc pach = T. cordobensis aka Lance aka FR991 Does anyone know if there's a better way to contact them? Knock on their front door or ring the doorbell. Edited April 9, 2014 by zelly
M S Smith Posted April 9, 2014 so basically, a spineless scop crossed with pach or pc pach = T. cordobensis aka Lance aka FR991 Humm, sounds like an interesting idea, but I don't know if there is any truth to it. If you got that from my post then maybe I could have worded it better. I was just pointing out the spine similarity of the two, but who knows, maybe you're making a point worth some investigation. ~Michael~
irabionist Posted April 9, 2014 It looks like a Super Pedro or a Scop x Pach cross This is my Scop And this is my Scop x Pach And this is them next to each other... Pictures aren't great because it's night here but yeah....
