Jox Posted September 11, 2013 Another cactus that came to me very neglected, I thought it was dead but it is slowly coming back & I figure it is time to try & find out what it might be. It looks like it would be a very nice cactus if it was healthy, I like the way it has grown. Cheers jox

0 bogfrog Posted September 11, 2013 Yeh i was kinda thinking bridgesii but the spination looks a bit wrong, Whatever it is, its a real trooper thats for sure
0 Jox Posted September 11, 2013 It is only a small cactus being 14cm high & the thickest part is like my thumb, I have a felling this is a pretty old plant & can't see it been a Tricho but I really don't know. There is nothing in my collection that it looks remotely similar to. Cheers Jox
0 Evil Genius Posted September 11, 2013 (edited) Its probably an Echinocereus. Will look into the species name later. Just gotta clean the cat shitter. Goddammit. Edit: Triglochidatus maybe? Edited September 11, 2013 by Evil Genius
0 M S Smith Posted September 11, 2013 Yeah, an Echinocereus sp. These more fleshy sorts with less spination do really well in partial sun as they are in many cases used to growing in canyons or under under scrub and get a lot less than full sun. Here's one of my Echinocereus scheeri subsp. gentryi hanging, and growing, quite well underneath my northeast facing porch, therefore getting just a few hours of sunlight in the morning (being in the northern hemisphere and all). ~Michael~

0 Jox Posted September 11, 2013 Thank you for everyone's input , I will put a tag on it saying Echinocereus ? & get wait for new growth & hopefully flowers, then maybe we can work out the ? . @ Michael, that is a beautiful plant mate, thanks for showing us. 0 junkheadrev Posted September 14, 2013 I have a younger echinocereus pentalophus that looks kind of similar .
0 mutant Posted September 23, 2013 Yep I was gonna say echinocereus but the other "so called" experts spoke before me. I have a similar unknown well unknown until recently where it put out a nive flower and then I said: hey echinocereus or what? also the shape of mine suits this one.. at this age, it should flower after a season in yr hands!
0 mutant Posted September 24, 2013 That's mine also this this is E. coccinea if I am not mistaking... not seen a flower apart from when I first got it, but I have no complaint from the growth rate and ease of rooting...
0 Jox Posted October 2, 2013 Thanks again to all, @junkheadrev, E.pentalophus looks very similar, I have a feeling that is what it is & If so I can not wait for it to show off those impressive flowers. Cheers Jox
