bogfrog Posted November 16, 2013 Just visited my mum and her cacti are looking fantastic This isn't really my freak to show off anymore but I will anyway cause its cute and it makes me happy how much my mum loves it. It's one of nitrogen's mutant hybrids on a tiny wee graft, probably the smallest I have done. At the time I gave it to her it was labelled simply '4', which corresponds to a list of hybrid names, and I was too lazy to find the book which I wrote the names down in, so months later it's still just called "number four" And here's my mysterious purple ariocarpus Albino Chamaecereus silvestrii (peanut cactus) A bridgesii 'Quentin' on the left which I will be watching with great anticipation, and a sedum crest Echeveria crest
tripsis Posted November 16, 2013 Used to have this little freak, but it died in the care of my ex sadly. Was from J1 open-pollinated seed. Slowest Tricho I've ever grown; would have been maybe a year and a half old here, but only about 2 cm. Terminated at the tip and threw a new segment each time. Eventually it pupped at the base too. Would have been a great plant one day.
GoOnThen Posted November 16, 2013 Rosie 1 and Rosie 2 open pollinated Cheers Got
Red Posted November 24, 2013 This is one of my favorites. Cereus Peruvianus Monstrosus This poor thing was laying on its side in a big puddle of water when I got it. Kind of a rescue. I took it off their hands for $15.00 It recovered very well,Then blessed me with these.
Red Posted November 24, 2013 This I found on sale also. Its a so called Coral cactus. Really its a Euphorbia Lactia Forma grafted to E. Neriifolia. Repotted after I bought it. The rocks in the pic here are glued together. The pot had no drain hole.

GoOnThen Posted November 29, 2013 Nice. Come on mushyman dont hold back I want more info what, were and how. Is that one of Hellonasties ? If you haven't already thought of it take a couple of small pieces off the bottom ( on each side) and graft them to Trich stock. It will make it easer to root / grow plus you will have another couple the same sort of size in around 12 months. I have taken pieces off most of my Trich crest's and grafted them. I am wrapped with the results 0 fails. Cheers Got
mushroomman Posted November 29, 2013 Haha GOT?its not one of Hellonastys it's a pachanoi. I will be grafting one small peice of it soon and will use that graft to make a heap of others to get out there
GoOnThen Posted November 29, 2013 I new there was some thing different about it. Congrats mate I wont ask any more questions. I have a grafted one I got of Tipz a while ago and it is starting to get going now but I haven't been able to find a spot where I can chop a piece off as yet ( its smaller than yours but quite fat ) I will post an updated pic of mine later. Cheers Got

Stillman Posted November 29, 2013 I've put this one up before but probably my favourite. Sickly, slow and frustrating thing but its still alive and starting to get some colours not sure if it will stay mutated or end up only variegated? when I first grafted it was pink and had no singular growth point. Hopefully I can keep it alive for a bit longer
tripsis Posted November 30, 2013 I don't really get the desire for sickly mutants. It one of the reasons I don't like variegated plants.
myco Posted November 30, 2013 I think the rarity is a big factor for alot of people I don't really know why I love them the rarity of some definately makes me want some things more but not only that for me a normal plants growth is pretty predictable while something that's crested or monstrose can be very VERY interesting to watch grow the strange shapes and unpredictable growth patterns can be amazing my monstrose pach is doing some crazy wierd shit at the moment Not sure if it's gonna start cresting or wat is going on its got some really wired growth happening on the top and not a single areole is putting out spines And when it comes to variegates to me they don't always look sickly a good variegate with a good portion of greens to photosynthesize can still be a very healthy and happy plant the different colors just give them an interesting look
tripsis Posted November 30, 2013 Oh I understand the love of cristate and monstrose plants, as it's something I share. The unpredictability of their growth makes them fascinating to watch. But variegates..I don't like them. The lack of chlorophyll just makes me think of them as having a disability, especially those which struggle as a result. Anything that can't grow on its on roots I have no interest in. Even monstrose/cristate plants that grow like some cancerous tumour hold little interest to me (e.g. some of the plants from Nitro's most recent batch of seeds, all those fucked up chimeras are just hideous in my eyes, and Mammillaria bocasana cv. Fred). It took me a long time to warm to that TBM crest. Of course, that's just my opinion and everyone has different tastes. I would just prefer to grow happy, healthy plants, not fucked up cancer-plants.
naja naja Posted November 30, 2013 (edited) I am certainly focusing my attention on those of nitro's X's that show the most vigor and robust growth. I have named two clones: These are both named in honor of our passed members Wandjina and Chemical Shaman. Here are some pictures: TPM X (SS02xPach) Chemsha clone- Chosen to represent his avatar which I think of everytime I think of him. I think this one looks like the head of the Alien from the Aliens movies, the way it's spines come out remind me of the aliens teeth and the protruding extra set of jaws from inside it's mouth. And: A TPM X N1 The Penny clone AKA Wandjina And this one reminds me of Penny because of the resemblance to a cockatoo's crest. Of which the sulphur crest was her totem animal. I have called it the Penny clone and not wandjina clone as to distinguish it from wandjina gardnes for future generations. One strange growth habit I am noticing on a few of the crests is a tendency to crest 3 ways. I did admitedly graft alot of tricolyledon seedlings, so this may explain their 3 ways cresting habits. I am also happy, one clone seems to be a thin crest thats going very wavy and is starting to resemble coral like growth pattern. Maybe even a brain in the future. tripsis Posted November 30, 2013 Those are both awesome plants Naja. Would love to trade for a cutting of either of them down the line. Reckon I've got some plants that would interest you.
mushroomman Posted November 30, 2013 (edited) Very nice naga that TPM x N1 crest looks a lot like my one. My psychoo x tpms are my most vigorous I haven't grafted any yet but there are some awesome looking plants in the mix 9 crested/monstrose mutants that are all pupping like crazy.
