Moses Posted January 24, 2012 ok so i've had this plant for 15 yrs odd adn occasionally a crested flower has formed but is normally too confined by spinage to fully form and always ended as a mess of a flower half open half closed. But this year we had one worth saving, so a few trimmed spines later and almost missed the actual flower itself, but 1:30 this morning i remembered and snapped these i tried to pollinate it with another monstrose cereus but the stigma was also crested(unfortunately couldnt get pix) so dont hold much hope. PD. Posted January 24, 2012 Thanks for sharing that one mate, looks awesome. Hopefully the fruit sets and we get to see the offspring. I had a crested flower pop out of something not long back, plant was standard growth, cant recall for the life of me what it was though now ha. Was nowhere near as good as that monster though! Chef Posted January 25, 2012 hey... in the 5th photo (if counting from to the very top) what would cause such scarring? age?
Evil Genius Posted January 25, 2012 (edited) what would cause such scarring? age? Sunburn, spidermite damage or maybe even wet and too cold feet. Edited January 25, 2012 by Evil Genius
Chef Posted January 25, 2012 @ EG only (not hi-jacking) I've got a tbm thats scarring on the base pup but now its pupping? The only strange thing i could think of is that maybe its not in the ground enough (as it wobble to and fro when i move it) and there are roots above ground? but its scarring crazy? Evil Genius Posted January 25, 2012 Tbms get scars very oftenly when they arent grown under the right conditions. I have one that i got from ebay that is pretty much nothing but a scar. It didnt grow at all since i got it years ago and still no change. But its hard to tell what causes it because every case is diffrent. Just avoid the common mistakes like too much full sun, bad soil and spidermites. Give it some nutrients too. Very oftenly, scars are a indicator that something wasnt perfect. They are not a problem but i try to avoid them as they make plants look sick. Also they can be potential entry points for rot in case you have spidermites. They wont stop till the whole plant looks dried out and bring in the fungal infections that kill the plant in the end.
