mystic_b Posted December 5, 2011 I've gotten quite into collecting cacti over the last year and was recently told about this website - very glad to see there are so many knowledgeable people out there! Hopefully I can learn a thing or two from you all.Anyway here are a few pics of my garden. Hopefully it's not too many pictures....The ones in the last few pics were taken a while ago and have grown quite a bit since then. Also the lophs are all looking a bit burnt at the moment so im hoping the recently added shade will bring them right.

mystic_b Posted December 5, 2011 Thanks everyone - it's nice to share it with people who appreciate it Cool collection & like centipede said, which side of au are you on? I'm in NZ down in chch love the mostrose pachanoi Thanks it's one of my fav's too, and it's grown so much recently. Here's a picture of it 2 months ago (notice the difference in the scaring on the far right!). On that note, has anyone tried cutting a piece off one of these and letting it root? On that note, has anyone tried cutting a piece off one of these and letting it root? I have taken cuttings from crests before and had no problems getting them to root. That was an echinopsis but should be not be any different with the pach crest. Its definately my favourite too ! welcome to the forums mystic, you new zealanders sure do have some nice genetics over there ( cactus genetics that is ) EDIT: i see your from christchurch... how is the recovery efforts going over there ? did you get to experience that quake ? ( off topic i know but im curious ) Edited December 5, 2011 by tipz
mystic_b Posted December 6, 2011 I have taken cuttings from crests before and had no problems getting them to root. Oh that's good news. As soon as I can bring myself to cutting it I will give it a go. i see your from christchurch... how is the recovery efforts going over there ? did you get to experience that quake ? ( off topic i know but im curious ) It's going all good. Can go back into parts of the city now - they've built a lot of shops in shipping containers which are a lot cooler than they sound haha. Have a look at this if you are interested http://inhabitat.com.../cashel-mall-5/ Yeah i was at uni for 2 of the big ones, didn't really realize how bad it was until i drove home. The worst damage for me was this...
niggles Posted December 6, 2011 Hi there, Thanks for the photos I like seeing other peoples gardens. I cant imagine how horrified I would be if an earthquake knocked over my cactus, at least now i can yell at the neighbours cat..
mystic_b Posted December 7, 2011 I cant imagine how horrified I would be if an earthquake knocked over my cactus It definitely wasn't a nice thing to come home too, although all the plants made a full recovery
niggles Posted December 8, 2011 Maybe there's a market for earthquake proof cactus pots. Like those blow up boxing bags that wobble back and forth but dont fall down
tedzr Posted December 8, 2011 (edited) Spring-loaded stabilizer pads I'm just glad your house didn't fall down mate! Sorry about the earthquake.. Very nice collection you've got there for a year, big fan of the pach's I see Edited December 8, 2011 by tedzr
DarkSpark Posted December 8, 2011 Maybe there's a market for earthquake proof cactus pots. Like those blow up boxing bags that wobble back and forth but dont fall down grrr damn i hate those things. Its like it comes back up teasing you time after time after time >=[ BTW nice garden and welcome to the forums ! Definitely keen to see some more pics of cacti flowers they are so awesome. mystic_b Posted December 8, 2011 big fan of the pach's I see Haha yeah it was sort of unintentional. Bought a couple, cut out the middle then decided I might as well plant the heads and bases and see what happens. Then the obsession just kinda grew from there... Always on the look out for some variety though Spring-loaded stabilizer pads I'd be willing to put up money for that Definitely keen to see some more pics of cacti flowers they are so awesome A few had flowers when I got them so i'm hoping they will be kind to me and flower again this year... time will tell!
