nitrogen Posted June 16, 2014 (edited) Stopped by a friend's place recently to have dinner and check on the cacti he's babysitting for me - they are doing so well in his yard - this is my bridgesii v "Psycho0" and the second one is my bridgesii v "KGC" - and the third pic shows psycho0 foreground and KGC in relief. The KGC is really fickle - it is a badass bridgesii but it stalls out a lot in terms of growth, and generally grows pretty thin - reminds me of the "Baker" clone in terms of growth habit.. Anyhow, it has exploded with growth this spring which I'm delighted about - hadn't grown at all in like 3 years after I planted it in that huge pot.. The color difference is really dramatic between these two - they are growing right next to each other so same enviro - psycho0 has that dark green/blue and KGC has got the aquamarine thing going - love them both.. djmattz0r Posted June 16, 2014 Both of those are fantastic looking! I hope my Psycho0 ends up looking like that. It just started putting out new pups after the ones it put out during shipping got smashed up. Waiting for it to root up a bit in this pot then it'll be going in the ground. I also got another SS delivery, really nice stuff as always. Trichocereus tulhuayacensis KK337 X T. bridgesii, really excited to see what color these flower. slightly shorter spines on this one Trichocereus tulhuayacensis KK337 Group shot And a few other goodies rooting with the rest

IMG_20140616_135646.jpg I'd be really interested to see this clone of yours when the pups have grown up a bit. I've never seen a Psycho0 have double centrals or to have such swollen bases of the spines like that cut of yours has.... It loks extremely cuzco/peru especially with the number of spines and the swollen bases.... I do see a couple of my Psycho0s putting out one long central spine on older growth but the other features of this cut are definitely throwing off a non-psycho0 vibe for me.... zed240 Posted June 17, 2014 (edited) Here's some pics from a while ago of some of my Psycho0 clones for comparison. Happy to take close up pics of the spines later tonight so you can see the differences I spoke of above. This one has big central spines starting on the older growth at the base. (cac is about a metre tall) - [edit] the pot for this one is way too small, I'll be throwing this one in the ground sometime before spring rolls around. and a couple more that are in the nursery planter and are a bit over 2 feet tall each. djmattz0r Posted June 17, 2014 I am not 100% sure if it is a Psycho0, I ordered a few different clones from a member here and they took 2+ months to arrive. I was supposed to get 2 boxes but only 1 arrived, not sure if the other is still stuck in customs or what happened but this was my best guess based off what I had ordered and the sizes of the things I got. I got a scop which was easy to ID and a bridgesii cv Kai which was 15cm but also got a peruvianoid that rotted away I was pretty sure was a Rosei #1 since it didn't look anything like a Yowie. This 'Psycho0' was the only other 30cm cut I had gotten besides the scop. I had ordered a 30 cm Super Pedro but this is definitely not that either. I just thought it was an old growth middle cut since mature bridgesii tend to look like peruv/cuzco. Definitely doesn't look like what you posted zed... Here's a pic of the mother plant of the psycho0 cutting I received, I haven't actually heard back from the member I bought them from which is why I have had to guess
zed240 Posted June 17, 2014 (edited) Hmm, it's a pity you haven't heard back from the member you got them from as I'm sure he/she could set us on the right path pretty fast! The mother pic you posted sure looks Psycho0 to me, and in my opinion it looks different to the cut you have. Maybe he threw something different as a bonus in the package that showed up?? Like you say, it certainly isn't scop, super ped or yowie. I seriously don't think it's roseii either but I only have Roseii #1 and mine's not very big yet.... But I'm pretty sure roseii doesn't have the swollen centrals like that.... Give the cut a year or two of growth and you might be able to narrow it down a bit too. I'd just personally put a question mark at the end of the label you put on it as I'd hazard a guess it'll end up being something other than bridgesii/Psycho0. It's a mystery! (for now...) djmattz0r Posted June 17, 2014 I have been calling it psycho0 on purpose for specifically this reason, hoping somebody would go hey that doesn't look right and tell me what it might be haha. It'll end up going in the ground once it roots out either way, I am interested to see what it looks like too. Now I need to get my hands on a real psycho0 cutting and the other clones I have been trying to get
nitrogen Posted June 17, 2014 Did you post a pic of that purported Psycho0 in another thread also djmatt? If so I recall thinking that it didn't look like psycho0 also, but the spines looked to have been trimmed or broken a bit so I couldn't be sure.. The mother plant pic posted above is definitely a psycho0 it's a very distinct variety when it's growing well - I can spot it immediately..
djmattz0r Posted June 17, 2014 Yeah, it may have actually been earlier in this thread. I thought it just looked funny because of old growth and missing spines from transit but it definitely does look different. If only they had been labeled, oh well. I'll put up some pictures in a month or 2 and see what everyone thinks Now I really want that 2nd box to show up!
mutant Posted June 17, 2014 I wonder............. psychO = TIG (oz) ?? certainly looks like a similar strain. Tig is still me fattest bridgesii.

zed240 Posted June 18, 2014 I wonder............. psychO = TIG (oz) ?? certainly looks like a similar strain. Tig is still me fattest bridgesii. I think Tig looks different, personally. I've not seen a Psycho0 with spination that match those double lower spines on Tig. But I also don't own a Tig! It seems that I need a Tig to grow next to my Psycho0 and you need a Psycho0 to grow next to your Tig! ;)
mutant Posted June 18, 2014 (edited) exactly! well, this thought of mine is based on the fact Gunter, had said this motiv of the double spines is present in psychoO.... in any case, no bridgesii of mine can beat TIG in fatness Edited June 18, 2014 by mutant

bogfrog Posted June 21, 2014 Emergency grafted my ariocarpus fissuratus x lloydii cause I accidentally pulled it off the pereskiopsis with the curtain.. I hope I got it right. Been a long time since I did a graft...and certainly a very long time since I did such a special graft. Jox if you happen to read this I will always be thankful for those seeds u sent which gave me this lil beauty. One of the few ario hybrids I have seen, and definitely has the pride of place in my seedgrown mob. It has been damaged by red spider mite but is gradually coming back to health and seems to be growing a bunch of fluff in the centre now. *fingers crossed*

djmattz0r Posted June 23, 2014 So, I finally heard back from who I got the cuttings from and turns out it is indeed not a psycho0 at all but a bridgesii x peruvianus which I can totally see. Ah well, guess I need to start a thread to find a psycho0 stateside. Still a really nice cactus cutting. I also was informed that the piece I lost to rot was indeed a roseii Here's the pup a bit bigger, should be a beauty. Also snagged a Thelocactus Bicolor v. shwarzii, the flower on this one is fantastic so I grabbed one with 3 buds and some red spines
