tripsis Posted January 3, 2011 Found these up Bellingen way over the new year. Bioluminescent Mycena species, probably M. chlorophanos, but I'm not really sure. Sorry about the blurry images, I didn't have a tripod and so had to hold the camera still during 30 second exposures. They were remarkably bright, so much so that they could be seen from several metres away. Psilocybe cubensis Panaeolus cyanescens. Just the one... Ganoderam australe or G. applanatum. I'd say G. australe. Auricularia delicata. I found tonnes of these in India, but had no idea they were in Australia. Macrolepiota dolichaula. Others whose identities elude me. If you know what they are, feel free to let me know.

Hyphal Posted January 3, 2011 Nice pics mate! Are the Macrolepiotas edible??
tripsis Posted January 3, 2011 Yep, the Macrolepiotas are edible. All species of the genus are as far as I'm aware. I didn't eat those ones as they were over-matured and didn't smell good, but the other species I've tried have tasted excellent, better than your average mushroom by far. shortly Posted January 3, 2011 Stunning photography as usual Tripsis The Mycena are so cool, gotta love anything that provides its own light. The vase shaped beasties look like a Cymatoderma sp. from up this way. Auricularia spp are a bit like bums this year with all the wet, they seem to be popping up in places i've never noticed them before. or perhaps i just didn't take the time to look before? tripsis Posted January 3, 2011 Definitely, anything that is bioluminesces is amazing. There were small, crawling insects which appeared that they may have been in their larval stage, that were bioluminescing too. You could make out tiny points of light on the ground and with some searching could find the source. The very tip of their abdomens would light up. Hadn't come across them before. I think you're right, they look a lot like some of the Cymatoderma elegans on Blueswami, even to their purple colouration. Interesting, they have anti-tumour effects... I've not seen any Auricularia species around here, but found some A. cornea on the Sunshine Coast just before leaving for India.
