Torsten Posted February 8, 2005 When I was a silly young raver I regularly blended various Mammillaria for consumption. I was living in the city then so my local garden center was my source. Most didn't do anything, but one was very interesting. The only problem was that the nursery did not have anymore and I soon forgot what the bloody thing looked like (obviously it was not properly tagged). So yeah, I know that at least one Mammillaria species is active
smogs Posted February 8, 2005 did you get ill or stomach probs from non-actives?
Torsten Posted February 8, 2005 no more than you do from consuming any bowl of slime No, I did not encounter any dangerous things in Mammillaria.
sascacheuan Posted February 8, 2005 effects similar to peyote or more narcotic, or stimulant??,
Torsten Posted February 8, 2005 more stimulant, but also inebriating. I was young and energetic, so it may well have been narcotic, but not overpoweringly so.
sascacheuan Posted February 9, 2005 i ask about stimulant effects because I have read some article in a spanish magazine about CAnnabis that reported stimulant effect from epithelanthas.
strangebrew Posted March 2, 2005 I was having a look in a book called "The Cactus Primer" by Arthur.C.Gibson and Park.S.Nobel in which they mention Mammillaria Longimamma having active ingredients. Apparently in it and it's closest relatives the active alkaloids are similar to epinephrine. It also mentioned traces of Mescaline have been found in Optunia, Pereskiopsis, Stenocereus and Pereskia. Does this image ring any bells Torsten?
