Shroomeup Posted April 17, 2010 Just thought i'd share some pics from a couple of days ago. I found these guys at a local park in Melbournes outer east. Lots of pins now coming up in the area.
klip247 Posted April 17, 2010 (edited) Went for a tour up a mountain near the South East, (Mt.D), here are some pics, plenty of mushrooms to study in their natural habitat but unfortunately none of the special Psilocybe variety, it would have been nice to spot these type. I think I spotted some Oyster mushrooms, they looked like the ones you buy at the shops only smaller. Should have taken more photos but I was busy looking around, next time ill have to be more camera busy. I really dont think this mountain is the correct habitat for the P.Sub variety, I looked very hard... plenty of look-alikes and non-look-alikes though, anyone ever found any on this mountain?? *Edit* Went out to another spot close to the mountain the previous night, spotted a bunch of Amanita Muscaria (they look amazing) and possibly some Galerina's on a pile of wood-mulch. Too bad the camera was left at home. Edited April 17, 2010 by klip247
klip247 Posted April 24, 2010 (edited) Went for a mushroom study hike and found something interesting, notice the P.subaeruginosa hiding amongst the look alikes? What are these look-alikes? Galerinas? Edited April 24, 2010 by klip247
frusciante Posted April 24, 2010 i have see this too klip, these look alikes are stropharia aurantiaca, what area were these found? Does anyone actually know what temperatures are actually needed for subaeruginosa to fruit? i heard the max overnight temp has to be around 7 degrees but have also heard different figures, can anyone confirm this? thank you
MORG Posted April 25, 2010 Uplands here are fruiting. First flush and its small. Sorry, no pics. None were pretty enough.
klip247 Posted April 25, 2010 In the s.e region they were found, let me just say that there was at least 70 mature... plenty of pins, these were not counted. But stropharia aurantiaca was the main fungus growing in the area, to a person with not much IDing experience the P.Subaeruginosa would have been missed. I am not sure about temps necessary for fruiting but the rains must have induced the fruiting... they are definately out there.
klip247 Posted April 25, 2010 (edited) Took a couple more photos today... Edited April 25, 2010 by klip247
fishstix Posted April 25, 2010 The other ones in the patch are organey right? I see them around here, but no subs. Gotta be careful... Not great at ID'ing so I won't try.
klip247 Posted April 25, 2010 Be absolutely careful, a wrong I.D could be fatal... but even if the I.D is correct remember that the Subaeruginosa mushrooms contain powerful hallucinogenic properties that can completely change your perception of reality, I consider these bordering on dangerous for the psyche. Truly think twice about taking these.
Lord Mayonnaise Posted April 25, 2010 Nice finds klip247. I have a patch too that is predominantly covered with Leratiomyces Ceres. It can be quite tasking to examine each one, especially in the dark.
klip247 Posted April 25, 2010 (edited) Are Stropharia Aurantiaca and Leratiomyces Ceres poisonous? Edited April 25, 2010 by klip247
gerbil Posted April 25, 2010 (edited) those names are synonymous, and yes quite poisonous. I don't think they are the ones in the pictures though, have seen these other unknown ones before, never id'ed them, inocybe, cortinarius, dermocybe, pholiota? not sure... obtuse Posted April 25, 2010 Hi all, well its finally that time of year in tasmania. bit behind the eight ball this year, but while hiking i found these today. This one is unusual and perhaps worth a post in its own right (???) and yes i have other pics. and check this out: Cheers, Ob.
Chiral Posted April 25, 2010 Ob is that a liberty or 3 I see in the second last pic...? damn sure does look like em...
obtuse Posted April 25, 2010 Chiral, i have spent the entire evening scouring my books. i am trying to be careful to not convince myself that it is. shall i post more pics here or start a new tread with additional pics do you think? Cheers, Ob.
Chiral Posted April 25, 2010 new thread would help keep it clear for future referencing for sure, there's nothing worse than looking for things and they are buried in threads about something completely different. they look like libs soooo much it's incredible...right environment looking too. nice finds, I'd heard that Tasmania was the only place that anyone has seen em outside of Europe. WoodDragon Posted April 25, 2010 Ob. Yeah, I reckon they're worth their own thread. They look like semis, and they're growing in the sort of ground semis apparently like: the sphagnum's definitely been juicing up lately, even without the rains that should be here about now. I think that I might go walking with camera in hand tomorrow. I know a few places just like that... Have you seen any pixie parasols yet, this year? Now there's a speccy shroom - the first time I saw them I couldn't believe that they were real!
gerbil Posted April 26, 2010 There are voucher specimens at the RBG melbourne of victoria semilanceata collections chiral, alpine way. AFAIK.
PD. Posted April 26, 2010 semis apparently been found at Mt buffalo, St albans in melbourne lol and a few other locations aswell afaik. Have tried at buffalo but past years have been far too dry.
Chiral Posted April 26, 2010 Cool then they might even be up around the NSW snow fields then before the snow hits which is about now innit...be worth a look around the pastures maybe. Nice to see these mushrooms again after so many years, they are delightful in so many ways, just need a shit load of em though to be of any use, hope someone finds a decent patch and bioassays for the community. I'll donate my head for said experiments...
JDanger Posted April 26, 2010 (edited) I was told that liberties have been sighted in the Blue Mountains, though I've never been present to take photos. Cool pics, OB. [edit] Chiral, I'm pretty sure they're found through large parts of North America, too. Edited April 26, 2010 by JDanger
bℓσωηG Posted April 26, 2010 I'd heard that Tasmania was the only place that anyone has seen em outside of Europe. Tonnes of them in New Zealands' southern alps region .I picked quite a few in Wanaka with some mad locals....the hills there are mountains tho quite a climb and then some.
