donjuan Posted April 2, 2009 i was just reading an essay (which i found after googling 'pituri') on this movie and i came across this: "A frog was caught at Maroubra and placed in a vessel containing a small amount of water. It was left there to die. When the liquid had become discoloured with age the singers swallowed it down, and thus fortified, they were prepared to sing without stopping for a week on end." i'm sure they're exaggerating about the entire week, but has anybody heard of this? what sort of frog would you think it to be? p.s. sorry if i posted in the wrong section! momomoto Posted April 3, 2009 There are plenty of references to frogs in the dreaming legends, some I think have to do with the connection frogs have to nature to know when rain is coming. I can't imagine any native frogs with bufotenine, don't know about native toads here though, cause bufo's are supposedly everywhere on earth. (shit - I even knew a frog 'specialist' biologist!) There's probably 1000's of frog/toad species in oz - why not have something active? Just let us know if you find it thomas
ThunderIdeal Posted April 6, 2009 generally people can't differentiate toads. shit, i didn't even realise australia had native toads. we have several frogs that are easily mistaken for canetoads.
toast Posted April 6, 2009 Australia doesn't have any native toads.
momomoto Posted April 7, 2009 Only Bufo's are the REAL Milli Vanillis of the toad world. As a kid, I remember dad smashing a heap of little brown not-toad-toads thinking they were cane-toads. I was sad, and it's a pity, because they were obvious co-habitating and competing in the environment.
