i daresay there are a few. i can't wield the axe quite like i used to but the potential is there if i ever had the calling. never got into sweep picking neo classical gear too much, if that's what you're referring to, but i know a little malmsteen and vai.

you can upload files into your post when you hit the "add reply" button (not quick reply)

i guess SAB doesnt let you upload music. you could upload it to something like rapidshare, or have it on esnips or myspace.. esnips gives the option to let people download the song (if you have that option enabled).. if myspace, make sure you sign up for a musician profile or whatever.

Here's a link to my first band, we recorded this stuff in 1988. I played the guitars and bass and wrote the material. Cheers.

EDIT: In 1998 the songs 'lovecraft' & 'premature cremation', were released as a 7" single without permission of the copyright owner (ME).

200 copies were released, all were sold & I saw not a cracker but, such is life I spose... Goes to show people will pirate ANYTHING

Anyways, I hope people enjoy...

ok fellow bangers!

Heres a sample of some of the bands I'm diggin right now.... In case the track names don't come up right here they are

1. Straws pulled at reandom (A Meshuggah cover by a friend and myself.. very very rough!)

2. Beneath The Massacre - The Invisible hand

3. Cryptopsy - .....And then it passes

4. Hate Eternal - King of all kings

5. Hunab ku - Houdinis Achilles Heel

6. Into the moat - Empty shell

7. Job for a cowboy - Bearing the serpents lamb

8. Necrophagist - To breathe in a casket

9. Origin - Staring from the abyss

10. Terrorust - Illuminazi

If you havent heard of any of these guys, it's Band name first then song title.... Make sure to give a listen to all of it! There is some brutal shit in there!!! A good example of where metal is evolving to.... The realm of the virtuoso!!

Fredrik Thordendals Special Defects

one of meshuggah's guitarists side projects. twisted, mental, heavy fucked up tunage. give Vitamin K Experience a listen

Totally agree!!!!!!!!

This has to be one of the best progressive metal side projects ever recorded, It's more like a symphony with movements rather than songs

A perfect blend of Jazz, Metal and Space!

Where were all you guys at the first EGA I went to? I felt like I was on some alien planet. A combination of fungi, trance, UV Banners and strange lighting made me feel so out of place - that I experienced ego death on a previously unmatched level!

I'll definitely have to check out some of the stuff listed in this thread.

Metal-wise I am mostly into:

Andromeda

Blotted Science

Nevermore

Suspyre

and of course the gods of grind themselves - Carcass!

and since going to EGA I also now listen to a lot of psychedelic electronic too..

Wish I could find an artist who could combine the better parts of what I love about prog metal with the electronic side of things..

Mmm, blending metal and electronic has been done more times badly than it has been done well.

A guy named Celldweller did some stuff that wasn't bad though. He did a good cover of the Beegees song 'tragedy'

EDIT: nevermore and Andromeda are fucking awesome.

anyone heard mastodons new album? holy shit. it's amazing. probably the best metal album since...well since their last album. very psychedelic as well.

Yeah, I have to say that Mastodon's "Crack the Skye" is my favourite album of the year so far. Taking their metal, and adding a bit more classic/psychedelic rock influence - kicks butt. Guitarists will love the riffing and solos too. For sample audio and some psychedelic visuals, see the Crack the Skye website:

http://cracktheskye.com/

It's the goodness, currently the only thing that can challenge my Tool fetish.

Ciome on guys what about the good industrial stuff

NIN & Trent Reznor

Ministry

Fear factory

Marilyn manson

Comeon you have to apprteciate any group that can combine a sampler and hard guitar riffs so well

I see no mention of ( although I have only read this page LMAO)

White Zombie

Rob Zombie

System of A Down or Serge

Good old Sepultura when the cavelera brothers were involved

The new Cavelera Brothers Stuff

Come on kanje nothing wrong with a bit of Doof not my cup of tea either but you can't beat the atmosphere of a good outdoor rave

NIN are awesome...'The Fragile' is a masterpiece. so dense, so many layers, so organic yet mechanical....I believe reading somewhere that Reznor is a big fan of mushrooms. with some of the sound scapes he creates i find that very easy to believe..

sepultura are another good one. the 'roots' album is a real high point for metal. merging authentic tribal rhythms and chants with heavy ass riffs. this clip of theirs is awesome...very strong shamanic influence no doubt... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3YYV4OiGpgc

I dont know if this has been mentioned or not, cant be bothered reading thru 6 pages, but about 10 years ago when I was in a death metal band, absolute masters of the genre were:

1) Morbid Angel

2) Death

I've always meant to get myself a Death album, wonder if theyre still around?

death's frontman died quite a while ago

edit: wasn't supposed to sound like a pun or anything. really sucks actually. i think it was a brain tumour.

What is it with Death Metal and brain tumors? Carcass' drummer suffered one also. However he is still alive - only barley play the drums though.
