Some IDs if u will

Question

Well good o'l mum has noticed my recent interest in catci and this is what I found on my doorstep when I arrived home yesterday. She picked them up for me at some local market down gippsland way.

If anyone could help out with some IDs that would be sweet. Also does anyone know of a good cacti identifaction guide?

First up, could you try to re-size the pix? They are huge and not very friendly to dialup users :)

Second, heres my thoughts:

1 Cylindropuntia

2 Verigated 'CornCob' Euphorbia sp.

3 Cylindropuntia

4 Euphorbia sp. (not all that knowledgable on specifics in the euphorbs)

5 Cereus peruvianus (apple cereus)

6 Echinopsis (syn. trichocereus) spachanius (golden torch)

7 Euphorbia sp.

8 Euphorbia sp.

Nice collection!

Cheers thanks for the fast reply. I was thinking/hoping No. 6 was a spach. Sorry about the size of the pics, I just spent about an hour f*cking around trying to resize them to no avail. any pointers?

Yep, on second glance, she's definately a spachanius :) Sorry, not entirely sure how to resize actually. I think you can do it via ImageShak and similar sites - maybe someone else has a simpler way?

nice assortment...Just to be different, number 4 is a Euphorbia trigonis, maybe a Borzicactus (samaipatanus?) for number 6 (very spach like too, but theres something about any photos I have on hand that just seems to fit with a Borzi grown in lowish light) , number 2 might be some kinda Euphorbia obesa hybrid (maybe with an E. virosa?) , number 5 looks mightily like my Cereus forbesii and forbesii x's. (any of my C. peru's which apparently is just a name they use when they can't be fucked to work out the real name have much less threatening spination and less width to the ribs). Number 7 (from here) looks like it might be a Euphorbia virosa grown in the shade or overwatered or something... or maybe an E.virosa x frucitosa? Lot of crossing going on in that tribe anyway.

Mums are great,

VM

You can resize images using Google Picasa or Irfan ImageView.

I'm certainly no expert, but I will eat my hat if number 6 isn't a spach.

EDIT: I should point out that I do not own a hat, so any hat eating that is likely to be done will be purely theoretical.

I'll send you a hat! You can't just go back on your word. It's like when people say "fuck me dead if that isn't..." and it isn't, I feel obliged to carry out their request.

I agree on the spach call, that's the only cactus there I recognise.

and that leafy looking one.. cereus peruvianus - cool, now I know.
