Any thoughts?

How old is the graft?

In my limited experience, my few older lophs seem to prefer slight shade as opposed to full sun, I have 50% shade cloth over my whole glass house and all my cacti seem to like it.

Its a bout a year ago it was grafted, 3 year seedling the size of a small pea, about 1/4 the size of its brothers and sisters.

All my other lophs enjoy sunshine once they gotten used to it but this little thing never liked it.

Also when i cut it i noticed that its body was not at all like a normal loph more like a bunch of snakes all twisted up.

Cool. Could it be a monstrose/crested Diffusa?

Its supposed to be williamsi, all the other seedlings from that batch look like williamsi. :)

myself i'd re-graft it to another stock, (increase the vascular contact surface area) because from the pic....., is it only about 3cm at most?

thats all thats needed jase, as the plants grow a vascular system will develop between the scion and stock and will allow great nutrient flow.
