KanJe Posted March 20, 2007 I'm curious, what is that monstrose in the bottom right corner on the third image?
Benzito Posted March 20, 2007 (edited) I'm curious, what is that monstrose in the bottom right corner on the third image? Crested Cereus Peruvianus. Thanks everyone else for your wonderful comments. It's grown alot since I bought it one year ago, but I still payed alot less than $200. Hamilton's is the shiznit! They rarely have gems like that, and the lady is hesitant to sell to people that look like 'junkies' in her eyes. But, once you win her trust, as long as you check regularly you can find some awesome ethnobotanicals. I got some Loph. var. Caspitosae there the other day! Jesus On Peyote Posted April 4, 2007 Nice pics and plants to the both of you . Hey benz, what was that plant in your third pic on the bottom right? not the one kanje asked about the one in the small blue pot?
Benzito Posted April 5, 2007 A Perioskopsis(sp?) Jesus. The grafting stock of choice, and a great way to keep birds away from smaller cacti! Donated by Darklight when it was barely 2 inches tall last summer.
egad Posted April 6, 2007 Wow! That's some amazing penis action! I love it! Gives me something to picture in my mind as to what my own penis plants will be looking like in a year or two's time, thanks for the inspiration benzito, just amazing, so beautiful. Out of interest, i was thinking of placing some of my tbms under hps lighting over winter as i have many that have pupped recently and would like to grow the pups out over winter in time for spring, has anyone had any experiences specifically with tbms under hps lighting, any helpful hints or suggestions you may have would be greatly appreciated. Its not just about light duration or heat that makes a plant grow more in the summer months. Under lights your TMB will not grow like they can and do in the warm aust summer. Air pressure also plays a huge part in when a plant will actively grow, I would personally just leave it to nature. I'm not saying you will not get a little extra growth because you probably will but cacti have grown for thousands of years in the natural seasonal climate and they area pretty used to it and its not like we don't get enough sun. You do realise these cacti are very slow growing don't you HyperSpacePixie?
Benzito Posted April 6, 2007 Yeah, I don't know the age of my specimen, but I've had it for a year and it's maybe grown an extra 5cm of growth in most areas. It would be at least 5 years old, possibly up to 10? I think it was their mother plant that Hamilton's were propagating from originally. Who knows, it might be the 'adam' of Penis Plants. The original one? I think it is an Australian mutation?
tonic Posted April 7, 2007 Hey Benzito mate, yeah i'd would be thinking more towards the 10 years. He is a massive specimen. I think we have just one or two mutations in Australia. I have seen the terms 'mostrosus' and 'inermis' used, am not sure if they are the same, but suspect they might be. There was a thread not that long ago about types of TBMs in Australia.
