TBM pupping out of tips instead of aeriols

Recommended Posts

i have a TBM with about 5 parts which is now starting to pup out of the tip of the penis. the others have a small scar where a spine from a new pup is just starting to form under the surface at the tips too. is this normal? there is plenty of free aeriols that it could pup from instead

wow, thats really interesting mate, its new on me, I suppose it could be viral or disease related?

I grafted a tbm tip with no areols onto a pachanoi about 18 months ago and it still shows no sign of ever pupping.

I would love a cutting, I still need to follow up on the buttons too. Ill PM you soon.

Areoles are not necessary for pupping in TBM. Both pics are of tips that had no areoles which not only rooted fine but both are pupping from the base near the roots

None, in fact the "B" clone got black rot and is only in the ground 1/2" or so and is a piece only2.5-3" long. But no I waited for many months with them seemingly just in stasis niether growing nor rotting. Then the larger piece, the "A" clone, put out a tiny pup from the interface with the rootzone then the "B" clone did the same. Needless to say I was quite pleased with this. I don't know that a graft would behave the same though.

The roots and the pup formed from semi-undifferetiated and etiolated cells at the root zone.

here they are almost a year ago sitting there thinking about it

The slightly etiolated first pup from the "A" clone

Hmmm I am guessing the roots near the surface form some sort of areole or something, because you can graft a rootstock and it will pup!

Well leaflets pup so why not.

I had a pereskiopsis leaf that I had rooted, it was about 12 months old when I uprooted it the other day due to root mealy and it had formed a little nodgel thingo at the base and was obviously about to start pupping/shooting.
