In the sprit of Christmas TREES!

I bought a nice Kauri pine once and used that for a couple weeks before we planted it. I hear Wollemi's are being marketed for that purpose too. Pretty good idea really.

    Bonsai Ethics

I guess there are different styles of bonsai too. The large ones are really nice and you could use almost anything for a large bonsai. The tiny miniature bonsais are better with small leaved species. Certainly ethno bonsais would be absolutely wicked, but to get the ultimate bonsai look you will always need a couple decades minimum. There's just no getting around that part, but totally worth it in the end I did have some beautiful bonsais when I was a teen, but every time I'd go on holls somewhere I'd come back to dead, dry plants. Such a shame. I also house-sitted for a couple of bonsai lovers once. They had literally thousands! My one and only requirement was to water the bonsais a couple times a week. It was fun, but also a bit of a chore because there were sooooo many.

    Bonsai Ethics

I don't know if cutting a plant is really 'torture' for it, and there are many instances of natural bonsais too. ie they grow all over cliff faces. We have these sandstone cliffs up the back of our block and there are heaps of native Rock Fig 'bonsais'. (Ficus rubiginosa) Ficus rubiginosa is absolutely made for the job IMO, and producing your own wouldn't be upsetting for them too much.

    I'm back!

Zeus is a wicked ass clone. I'm surprised all the kiwi's aren't going mad over them. How's your collection these days anyway. You must have hunted down quite a few choice cuts by now.

    Bonsai Ethics

Not as bad as my dilemma. I like to drop bonsais from high buildings onto hard cement. The older they are the sweeter they sound when they smash. This cruel fetish has cost me thousands!

Seriously man, Congratulations on such a damn fine piece of work. It seems like you put in a huge effort to produce this and it sounds just so awesome. It'll take me a while to go through them all but what I've heard so far is just soooo good. I love the upbeat tempo too. Combined with all the beautiful sounds of nature and cultures etc it's a great combo. Sign me up for more bro

    Narcolepsy

No worries, I was dead set against meds at first but then I gave them a go and it helped so much I forgot why I was so against them LOL The doc is the one to help with your specific issue, and he will help you weigh up the pros and cons of the meds. Just don't be afraid to give them an honest go first, they don't often have severe side effects, and often they have none at all. Some points to remember with side effects. The higher the dose, the stronger the side effects. So the doc will start you off low. The side effects will stop when you stop taking the medicine, they are rarely permanent unless you do something stupid like eat the whole bottle at once. Some meds may have long term side effects like higher chance of stroke etc. It's just a matter of the good outweighing the bad. I had loss of sexual function as a side effect of some other meds once, I gave them up as soon as I realised and 2 weeks later I was howling at the moon again.

    Narcolepsy

Don't let dept of transport know or they might take your licence away. They did it to my neighbour but I'm not sure exactly what her condition is. Anyway, she can't drive now, which has affected her life in a majorly bad way. I personally have had sleep seizures for most of my life, where I can fully lose control of my body and fall down etc. It's really embarrassing because people get shocked and panic etc. I just take the medication and now I don't suffer from the falls, -only if I go off the meds etc. Just take the damn medication, it's nothing. I have found no side effects that I'm aware of, so much better than falling down and getting hurt or embarrassed. (I find the embarrassment is worse than any injury I've ever had). Anyway, I can also get temazapam to make sure I do get a good night sleep when I need to. I hardly ever take them but when I need them they are a godsend. They'd probably give me what ever benzo I want if I milked it, but that medication is just too valuable to my condition to ever start abusing it.
  14. Pretty straight forward question really. I've always been led to believe Trichocereus are incapable of being fertilised by their own pollen, but I'm now wondering about the accuracy of this assumption. Is this considered to be an established fact, or am I just generalising? Can anyone vouch for the accuracy of the widely-held assumption that: Tricho's are non self-fertile. Has anyone had any experiences contrary to this belief. Perhaps some species are self-fertile while others are not, etc. I'd love to find out more about this if possible.

What did you do to your cacti today?

^Oh and by the way, the same principle works on full grown 10yr old cacti. I know a guy who chopped a couple huge trichos down to 1 foot high off the ground. Crazy? I thought so too until he pointed out the ones he'd done about 4 years earlier. Absolute tricho forests! He said it's the only way he'll ever go now, and I pretty much agree. Just some food for thought anyway...

What did you do to your cacti today?

TPC x Juuls. Should I let them go or remove? I am of the firm opinion that the best thing to do in this situation is to chop the main trunk about an inch or two above the pups. It will pup again ( maybe twice) and the whole thing will clump up very nicely. It will be strong and robust, and all the pups will be beefy not skinny. Trust me on this it's how I've done it for ages. Obviously time to give plenty of water and ferts too. Plant the tip again and repeat the process every 2 years on the tip. It absolutely won't go skinny if you give it plenty of sun, water and ferts. It will actually continue to get fatter. I stumbled across this method DEALING with some skinny etiolated columns and trying to fatten them up again. I know it may seem a little counter-intuitive at first. Also it's time to chop an inch off the bottom of this tip-cut, and use that small piece to do a bunch of aerole grafts. This method works BEAUTIFULLY for me, so I encourage you to give it a crack The main benefit of this method is that everything gets really fat, clumps up much better, AND you end up steadily multiplying your favourite clones into many pots. This plant of yours is the ideal candidate for the method. I strongly urge you to give it a go, and thus gain a new technique for your repertoire.
  17. IMHO I think it is a SCOP hybrid that is either made with bridge or pach. Many bridge x scop's are very short/spineless like this one. Maybe the seller got SCOP x bridge mixed up with PACH x bridge. And I strongly doubt it to be pach x bridge. I'm actually a big fan of scop x bridge hybrids because they are so often very short spined.
