I have a feeling if you were to graft it, that it would eventually grow like the rest of the cacti but just my guess. When I first got mine they were mostly just white variegated and had very little pink... over this winter they have gotten quite red/purple especially on the tips with lots of sun. Here is the same plant, before and after. Some cuttings which have turned exceptionally purple... And mother plants!

I'm just over here in the corner laughing with my cacti...

I have this and mine have turned a dark purple during dormant conditions and full sun... Really quite nice looking compared to the white/pink it normally takes on. Will try to get a pic for comparison tomorrow.

So short spined peruvianus... isn't that supposed to just be a real deal pachanoi anyways? I had read through all the stickies at the top and read something mentioned about the "plus sign" on the cuzcoensis thread but these definitely aren't that so believe it to be false, also the other one isn't a plus at all since it has less ribs...

Any US tricho collectors want to trade?
djmattz0r replied to nicechrisman's topic in Seed & Plant Swaps
I'd love to trade! PM sent (South US) I am also more likely to have things to trade later in the season as well, like EG -
First willy flower of the season and first time seeing this one cactus flower, lost the tag so name eludes me at the moment if anyone can chime in?

Zelly's trich crosses, got pics? post here please
djmattz0r replied to mushroomman's topic in Cacti & Succulents
Those Validus X Bridgesii are awesome!! As soon as I saw that picture I went and looked through my seed stash and found 2 packs of Validus x Lumberjack! (Score! didn't have to buy em on the bay ;)) kinda forgot I had ordered these. I also apparently bought seeds I already had some of, go figure, so I'll have lots of huano x (SS02xSS01) seedlings Going to sow out all the seeds I have gotten as soon as I can make room for the pots inside. Everything is still inside but I think it's finally consistently warm enough to move the collection outdoors again. -

Definitely one of my favorites! The guy I got them from had a great environment for cacti, somewhere in Arizona, all the cuttings I got were super blue. Here are the 3 I bought when I first received them. From left to right, SS02, PeruXBridg, Bridgesii

Thanks for all the awesome feedback and tips! I'll tell my dad to get on the weeding! Here are a few more photos I found that are pretty good. A far away shot of a group from the backyard, these don't have the best direct sunlight because they are under some trees but hopefully they'll still get nice and fat :D Another shot of the Peruvianus X Bridgesii Close-up of the TPM X SS02 (Terrence) [i am heavily propagating this clone at the moment with a few grafts that will soon be chopped into more grafts, hopefully will have cuttings to trade ] T. Pachanoi crest on the side of the house, hoping the growing tip expands as it's only active on the right side atm. What I believe to be a Bridgesii semi-monstrose c.v. lotusland with an SS02 in the back T. Peruvianus monstrose with the 4-winds bridgesii in the back Next time I visit I will be bringing a few more cacti down to put in now that it's finally warming up and I will try to do some weeding/ soil fertilization

Bunnings Propagator any good for seedlings?
djmattz0r replied to Nailthesnail's topic in Cacti & Succulents
I used something very similar to this and had problems because I kept it outside in intense heat/sun so lost a lot. If you're planning on keeping everything indoors it should work great. -
Nitrogen´s Connoisseur hybrids - pics and seed giveaway

Good to know, I definitely plan to graft a bunch of these so I can get them to show off their freakishness a little earlier -

Is the virus eventually lethal to the cactus or just cosmetic spotting/scarring? Any way to cure them, or just let em grow ugly?

I have had random light spots on certain cacti, both trichs and lophs that seemed to appear and then fade without a trace. I always attributed it to lighting conditions as that's when they seemed to fix themselves after I moved them to a different location. All just a guess though <shrug> as I first thought it was a fungal infection or insect damage. On to some freaks: Here's a cutting off my TPM X SS02 "Terence" that I put in the ground and hopefully will have some awesome growth from it soon. A crested san pedro I put in the ground as well, hoping it starts to grow again as most of the crest has stalled and only the right side is actively growing.

Here's a button that got burned pretty badly when I derped and left it outside: Before the burn, such a cutie Right when I found it and brought it back in, had a gooey consistency and a loose layer of burned skin The scar that appeared and hardened all over it Here it is after about 6 months, finally recovering and putting on some new growth Here's a tip I just potted that I received on the internet labeled as a 'san pedro' but seems more like a short spine peruvianus. Unfortunately this one along with about 6 other cuts were just thrown in a box with no protection but glad they only came out heavily scarred and not a box full of rotten pulp

T. Pachanoi - Lowes - Thoughts?
djmattz0r replied to magical9's question in Cactus & Succulent Identification
Those are great finds for Lowes! I recently bought something on the internetz that closely resembles that first picture. I'm excited to see how it grows as apparently they were columns from a crested specimen, unfortunately mine have a bunch of scarring from being thrown in a box all willy nilly like. Awesome snake eg -
I only see a little one from Germany and a scop x torch seedling atm.
-
Awesome garden so far! Can't wait to see what you do with it!
-
How hard is it to find a true scop in the states? No bunnings here lol... They seem to be all over Australia/NZ, even on eBay there's never anything domestic

That validus x bridgesii is getting some nice spines! -
If you look in between the ribs there should be v-like formations in the blueing, right way up should make regular V's. I am having a hard time with words at the moment so if that description doesn't mean anything I'll give it another shot in a bit. The bridgesii in your first picture is upside down in that picture. a bit harder to tell on the peruvianus from that picture but in your 3rd picture of the closeup I'd say the left side of the picture is up. edit: db has a good one with the vascular rings too, that's even easier :D
