gtarman Posted August 25, 2013 I thought it might be cool to see if anyone around here has good recipes for dinner and stuff that falls under the category of simple/cheap/quick/tasty. I know there are some cracking good cooks on here, so there's bound to be a few tricks I can pick up One of my favourite things to make in a hurry that's tasty and healthy is a generic asian noodles thing: Any kind of meat, sliced, minced, whatever Any veggies and greens you have on hand - frozen mixed veg is pretty easy Some kind of cooked noodles - instant noodles work well (if you can find the ones that aren't fulla nasties) Basically you just get some crushed chilli/chilli paste, some minced garlic (both from jars) and chuck it in a hot pan with oil, add the meat til cooked, then the veg, then the noodles then pour in a bit of sesame oil and possibly some asian cooking wine if you have it and like it. naja naja Posted August 25, 2013 chilli garlic corriander root, fry 30 sec, add chicken mince, mince by hand with a very sharp knife for authenticness. Very fast and very hot fry until cooked/browned, add oyster sauce, palm sugar and chopped up corriander tops, water chestnut or baby corn if u feel so inclined. soak ur rice noodles until soft, add to cooled mixture and eat, or use as an omlet filling or use as a spring roll filling. (forgot about it completely) - Juice of one large lemon - Good pinch of salt *Chilli, if you're into that. Marinate for as long or as little as you like and serve with rice/cous cous/mash taty. Nom nom nom Nice variation is to cook Spanish onion and red/green capsicum with the chicken Edit- Cook until chicken is tender, lol. nothinghead Posted August 25, 2013 potatoes and quinoa seriously though, chuck some oil, onion, and garlic in the pan or pot then your favourite spices (i go for chilli and cumin). boil up the quinoa, when done add it with some of its water to the mix, stir through a squeeze of tomato paste, salt and pepper and you're done. a nice chilli stew can be made in the same sort of way. add your onion and garlic to the oil in a large pot, then your fav. spices and chillis. throw in a bunch of diced potatoes, carrots, capisicum (whatever you like), some kidney beans and whatever other beans you have lying about, coat the mix with the spices by stirring, then add a bottle of beer (anything from ale to stout depending on your tastes), salt and pepper it, and cook it down while you're boiling the rice to go with. hearty! throw together a salad (for your greens) to go with them while you wait for them to cook. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Optimystic Posted August 25, 2013 (edited) CHOW Chop zucchinis into match sticks about 2 inches by 1/4 inch... I guess thats a little less than a centimeter by maybe 4 - 6 cm long... put 2 tbsp of olive oil in a pan, heat on high... sprinkle in a bunch of red pepper flakes, I use crushed red pepper usually sprinkled on pizza... (You really don't need much red pepper, maybe like a teaspoon for a good size pan full) and add a teaspoon of minced garlic... maybe a whole clove but I just buy the already minced stuff stir it up a bit to get all the flavor into the oil, maybe about a minute, only let the garlic brown but not to the point of burning.. throw in your zucchini (or other types of soft summer squash) , just stir them real good for a couple minutes til lightly brown... can go crispy if you want but not necessary... but just make sure they get fully coated in all the flavored oil... the recipe said just throw them in, wait for a minute and flip over.. but i'd rather just keep flipping it around eh remove from heat, add salt and pepper, and sprinkle some dry parmesan... shits good even if you don't like parmesan that much ... Optimystic Posted August 25, 2013 (edited) Bomb ass Bruschetta... I just mixed up a couple recipes I found online... Cut up a bunch of tomatoes into little squares (or use a chopper)... maybe 4 or 5 huge ones or 8 medium ones romas are best, if you use other types you need to drain the juice away but I do use yellow pears and cherry tomatoes often usualy I mix in a few types... in a pan, two tbsp of olive oil, heat it up with about a tbsp of minced garlic.. same, let it brown but not burn... I actually chop up a bunch of basil and cook it with the garlic... or you can put the basil in afterwards let that cool, and throw in a wide bowl with 2 tbsp of balsamic vinegar... dash of salt and pepper if you want and basil can also go in at this step... throw in the tomatoes, stirl is all up real good and let that sit for about 10 or 15 minutes so the flavors can have sex I stir mine a few times just to mix all the flavors real good over the waiting time then , get some french bread, a pre cut loaf is easiest... lay them out on a flat pan for the oven and toast them in the oven, DON"T LET THEM BURN lol... just lightly toast... melt some butter, when they're toasted in a few minutes, just brush a little butter on each piece once the bowl of flavors have jizzed, drain the juice again or use a spoon with holes, put a couple spoonfuls spread out on each toasted slice.. sprinkle fresh Mozzerella or Parmesan or both onto each piece... put as much as you want lol throw back in the oven to broil for no more than a couple minutes, basically until the cheese melts let that cool... eat it all up before anyone finds it... . The nz vegemite factory got screwed over in the christchurch earthquakes and kiwis had no vegemite for several months, everyone was bitching and moaning about how much they missed vegemite, meanwhile i'm chowing down the promite and couldnt care less. When the factory got up and running again the supermarkets were giving out free jars of marmite to "celebrate".. Allow solution to cool. You should be able to see the pop rocks forming in the bubbles. Add more distilled water and reheat whilst swirling. Take off heat and swirl until solution cools. One cup of fresh Parmesan .. 3/4 cup pine nuts ... 2 cloves of garlic ... ( chilli optional ) salt .. Pepper.. 1/4 to 1/2 cup of good olive oil ... Add all ingredients to mortar n pesel .. Sorry.. Recipies! Umm! I like making mashed potatoes and serving them with poached eggs on the top, stirfired veges and salad on the side. I managed to stop eating them for over a year because someone told me they are full of palm oil. Therefore eating noodles = killing rainforest. .. whoami Posted August 28, 2013 mi goreng is the name of the flavour, not just the name of the noodles. and yeah they do contain palm oil but I watched a documentary on palm oil and rainforest clearing in indonesia and everywhere else, and I realised there's not a fuckin lot we can do about it. rainforest clearing for palm oil plantations is mainly just a guise, a fake front for a plethora of other questionable activities that the corrupt officials are going for. were pretty powerless, even if you stop buying products that contain palm oil it really does nothing to help the situation Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
mimzy Posted August 28, 2013 I have survived off this one for a while: Thai Pumpkin Curry Brown 500g beef strips in pan, put aside. Fry 500g chopped up butternut pumpkin until its cooked. The smaller the pieces the more quickly it cooks! Throw in 3 table spoons thai red chill paste to the pumpkin and fry off a little. Put beef back in, add a can of coconut cream and teaspoon of brown sugar. Simmer until looks like curry! Serve with rice. Done! qualia Posted September 4, 2013 heres a cool little salad 5 ounces dried radish strips, about 3½ cups 1 teaspoon vegetable oil 3 garlic cloves, minced 2 green onions, chopped 2 tablespoons soy sauce 3 tablespoons hot pepper flakes* 3 tablespoons rice syrup** 2 teaspoons sesame seeds soak radish in bowl /c hot water, 10 min strain and sauté radish, 3-4 min mix rest of the ingredients in a bowl add radish, mix thoroughly enjoy!! *a note about the pepper flakes, this is a korean recipe and they have a certain way of doing chilli flakes, not quite powder but much coarser than "normal" chilli flakes (like you'd buy in coles), plus no seeds. look for that in your asian grocer when you're getting your radish strips ** can't be replaced by honey, 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
