    Acacia courtii

SEEKING ACACIA COURTII... - seed - potted plant (seedling or tree) - living material (for tissue culture) I respect our natural ecology & sustainable practices.
  2. Hi all - has anyone here had success with germinating A. burkittii? They seem much more challenging than other acuminata variants. 2x hot water treatment 2 weeks apart yielded no results (unlike a. broad or narrow phyllode which usually germinate within a week of hot water treatment). Thanks for any help in advance!

  6. Hey guys I was hoping for some help identifying these wattle species around where I live. I am north east of perth in the hills. The images show three different wattle plants, I believe two of them (long, narrow, elliptical leaves) may be the same species but am unsure due to colour differences in the branches. Sorry for the noobish question and any help is very much appreciated!!
  7. Hi all, Has anyone had any experience soaking your acacia (or otherwise) plant matter in high proof alcohol or iso for extended periods of time. For making soaps? I hear once evaporated it can form interesting crystals. - Thank you all!

    Longissima!

Acacia longissima seems to be in flower at the moment and i have heard rumours of alkaloid content but no first hand experience as of yet. Has anyone had any luck or even tried to do anything with this acacia? Its a pretty groovy looking acacia too -Cheers!
  17. Hi folks, Acacia melanoxylon grows well at our site. I used to hate it, but the fact the timber is so good, and it fixes nitrogen, and it grows so fast have made the damn tree grow on me. I was wanting to know about any other acacias which will grow in a wet NZ climate approx USDA 9b? The area gets about 2.2m of rain per year (+- 20cm) spread evenly with no real dry season, and temperature mostly stays between 5 and 20 degrees the whole year (with forays down to -1 and 25 degrees respectively). The soil drains okay from what I can tell, but perhaps best to think of it as a bit swampy. Any ideas for other Australian natives, that fix nitrogen, and ideally have another use (e.g. edible seeds/fruit)?

    Stubborn\ Acacias

Hey, this is my first post so please excuse me if its a mess I planted acacia seeds about a month ago, 8 obtusifolia and 4 floribunda, 2 of each of these popped up in days, not problem. Since then in the last 3 weeks i have planted an additional 15 or so floribunda. So far I've only had 2 obtusifolia germinate and are doing great. And 2 floribunda which also popped up fast after planting. The remainder seem to be laying dormant. Is it common to have this much gap between germinating acacias? Could it be the difference between planting at the beginning of summer and towards the end?
  20. hi, i was wondering if anybody knows what type of Acacia? this could be.

    Wattles Indoors

I have these wattles started 5-6 years ago from seed giveaways on SAB /Thanks guys!/ I'm not sure what variety/ I think the seeds were labeled acacia maidenii / and I haven't seen them flower yet. Since then they've been indoors, between floors in apartment building, facing North and direct sunshine in the evenings .Summer time microclimate for this spot is very hot and dry and the plants seem to like it. Winters here are down to minus 20 degrees Celsius outdoors and probably around plus 1 in this spot /I haven't actually used a thermometer to find out the exact numbers; might have been below freezing as well../ Compared to other acacia plants I've started from seeds and tried in these growing conditions / for example a.acuminata and a.courtii/ ,this variety handles indoor light well and grows better and faster . The substrate is light mix of loam, sand, perlite, commercial potting mix and leaf litter/humus/ gathered in the park, in 20 litre buckets. Once or twice I've tried to better the pots with some soil gathered under local acacias. I water once a week, or twice a week in the Summer . Low nitrogen fertilizer once or twice a year. They endure annual pruning 30-40% well. The plants drop leaves naturally / renew foliage every year as well. This year one of these gradually lost all leaves in the middle of growing season/Summer/ and I thought it's going to die, but recenty I've found new offshoots coming out from the stem Time to share some photos Enjoy
  23. hi all so wondering if none of the seeds germinate do you take them out and try and soak then in water or nick them again and try again or is it a case of if they don't germinate they are finished. also how long do you think would leave them for like give them a month if you havne't seen any sign of life it's a no go or 6months what? if one begins to grow but looks like it has died can you still keep on looking after it and it'll come back and keep alive and growing ? thanks just building ones knowledge base kind regards
  24. Good afternoon everyone! Firstly i would just like to thank the kind human for accepting me to this great community! So i was wondering if i could get a possible id on some acacias growing around my area, I have been searching up a lot about acacias and trying to id these variants myself, i even have the book "Acacias of Australia" but i cant succesfully id any. I have uploaded all the photos through an external source so I'm not burning precious bandwidth! thanks Acacia 1 - taken on 20 JUL 17 Acacia 2 (Acacia Phlebophylla?) - taken on 20 JUL 17 Acacia 3 (Acacia Maidenii?) - taken on 20 JUL 17 Acacia 4 - taken on 20 JUL 17 Acacia 5 - taken on 20 JUL 17
