Tas75 Posted July 5, 2011 Hi everyone, first post here. I've been reading the forums for a while. I'm into photography and some of my favourite subjects are fungi. Here are some you guys might enjoy. I posted these at another international set of forums a couple of weeks ago, so some of you might have seen some already. Here's a Psilocybe cyanescens look-alike. These have clear pleurocystidia, and may or may not be Ps. cyanescens. The question has come up many times in the past and the answer so far has always been that, in those cases, they were just Ps. subaeruginosa, a really variable species. This one has been growing in this locality for at least 17 years, and tends to move spots depending on what's freshly mulched on a given year: Here is some Psilocybe subaeruginosa. Macroscopically chalk and cheese with the previous one. This is an interesting one, growing at about waist level on a fallen tree in rainforest. There were Ps. subaeruginosa around it on the ground, but I was unsure as to whether this was Ps. subaeruginosa or Galerina patagonica. There were several obvious G. patagonica in this forest nearby. A good warning that, if your gnome was planning to collect them and eat them, make bloody sure it knows how to tell them apart. I just don't fancy the risk: And finally some pretties: Coprinus comatus: Mycena sp.: Another Mycena sp.: An upside-down jelly cup! A native Pleurotus. I wonder if they're edible, they were a bit on the small size to bother with: Enjoy!
tripsis Posted July 5, 2011 Top quality photos and excellent first post! Welcome to the forum. That gorgeous blue Mycena looks like M. interrupta. The Pleurotus may very well be P. purpureo-olivaceus. If that is the case, I would love a print or culture. Have been looking for that species for quite a while now. Marcel Posted July 5, 2011 Nice images, Tas, and welcome. I especially like the first sub photo, with the pair of slender-legged nipply ones .

Tas75 Posted July 5, 2011 Thanks everyone! Tripsis: Sorry, I don't usually collect them, I just like taking photos. That one was taken in late may, so I think there's buckley's chance of it still being out... If I'm in that neck of the woods next year I'll try and remember to collect one for you. The season seems to be winding down well and truly as well, but this rain and cold weather might give it one last spurt... we'll see.
