SirLSD Posted May 4, 2005 spencers, ,asterfoods, spices of the orient and about any other brand of poppy seeds in supremarkets in australia are tassies. tried and tested.
Benzito Posted May 4, 2005 The question about supermarket brand poppy seeds comes up so regularly on here, but I don't think I've ever seen a definitive answer. Are poppy seeds in the supermarket, in AU, from the Tasmanian crop? Are they Tassie Blues? Will a nice tea made from these kill me if they aren't Tassie Blues? Does anyone have some real, hard, fast evidence?
smogs Posted May 4, 2005 there was some evidence here stating that tassie poppie seeds were sorted into no (or low) opium containing seeds and opium containing seeds.. the latter being destroyed while the former going on the shelves. People recomend you get poppie seeds that say "product of turkey" or persia for a superior... flavour edit: also try www.seedring.org free seeds! [ 04. Benzito Posted May 4, 2005 quote: there was some evidence here stating that tassie poppie seeds were sorted into no (or low) opium containing seeds and opium containing seeds I would love to see this evidence! Has anyone got any further information about this? How would they even test the seeds without destroying them?

Benzito Posted May 6, 2005 I'm sure someone does, but it might take some broken kneecaps, and thebain poisoning before I find out. I'll be back in 4 days. If no-one hears from me, hope for the worst.
