BlackDragon Posted November 4, 2005 Hiyall Here is a pic of quite a unique t.bridgesii, or so I think. It differs in characterisitcs from normal bridgesii as you can see, the main differences is its strickingly huge girth(thisis a 22inch pot!) I have a number of mature bridges and none come close to the thickness of this baby. . Suprisingly if you remove the golden spines... it looks remarkably like a pachanoi! Close up of spine formation Total height of the mother plant was only 1.8m. I have a mature normal bridgesii at least 2.5-3m at home! Ive seen plenty of bridgesii but this one spins me out.... Anyone got any thoughts Bd
Dodie Posted November 4, 2005 Just looks like a very friggin nice bridgesii to me :D It looks like a cutting so i wouldnt be surprised at the fatness of her....i havent seen a hell of a lot of brid's, so i cant help you to tell if its a cross or not... strangebrew Posted November 4, 2005 More than likely a hybrid. Where are you located? In Oz there is a clone known as Eileen, use the search engine.
planthelper Posted November 4, 2005 could be another eileen type pedro, maybe it is eileen. chek out member ed's eileen pics topic and search for rev's eileen does spineshifting again topic. i am sure some people here will have more to say about your beautyfull specimen. anyway i have a similar cacti, it looks bridgesii but the cutting it grew out of had a very big diametre, far to big for a normal brigesii. BlackDragon Posted November 4, 2005 Howdy. Well I can tell you for shure its not Eileen. Mature plant looks totally different. I will go out to the motherplant this weekend and get some pics. If it is a hybrid, which Im sure it is, It leans heavily towards both ends of the spectrum. Any positive essays on Eileen?
strangebrew Posted November 4, 2005 (edited) Plenty from what I hear. Nice score BTW, it's beautiful, it's always good to see more oddities turning up. I'm sure it'll be another popular clone, I know I want one! :D Edited November 4, 2005 by strangebrew

zee_werp Posted November 4, 2005 That is a really nice looking plant, one of the coolest looking trich pics I've seen in a while! It does remind me of the pics I've seen of eileen, not sayin it is the same clone but it does have that 'bridgesioid hybrid' feel to it. Can't wait for pics of the mother plant. Is it flowering at all? Since I'm in NZ I can't put my hand up for a cutting (though after just a couple of hours you're already inundated with that anyway, lol) but would love some pollen to get into something else, that would be awesome. If anyone out there has pollen for bridgesii, or any other interesting trichs, PM me let me know. Could do a swap. Cheers
Gunter Posted November 4, 2005 I wonder if a bridgesii X scop (long spined) cross would produce any plants like that?
gusto Posted November 4, 2005 Super nice clone! Hope the mother plant is of flowering size. If you can arrange a cross with Ed's Eileen, that would make for a good way to spread those genetics around. I'd be most curious to see what kind of seedling variation such a cross would produce, considering the apparent similarity of the two clones.

I'd be most curious to see what kind of seedling variation such a cross would produce, considering the apparent similarity of the two clones. Thought it was an eileen cut at first. Very similar, and I'd be keen on seeing the pics of mum. What's your general location BD? Also keen on a pollen swap if this one flowers. ed
incognito Posted November 5, 2005 do u have any pics of eileen in flower ed?
reshroomED Posted November 6, 2005 do u have any pics of eileen in flower ed? There's some *very* poor quality pics from a few years back here. I've got an el-cheapo digital camera now so I'll post some pics this year. Funnily enough I saw this this morning on my pach. Three buds at 0900, and nine that I can see atm (1830). First time she's flowered, so I'm pretty stoked. I'll post some pics when they bloom. ed
